<span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>And after Paul<MG3972> and Barnabas<MG921> had<MG1096> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>a heated<MG3756, 3641> argument<MG4714b> and debate<MG2214> with them, <i>the brothers</i> determined<MG5021> that Paul<MG3972> and Barnabas<MG921> and some<MG5100> others<MG243> of them should go<MG305> up<MG305> to Jerusalem<MG2419> to the apostles<MG652> and elders<MG4245> concerning<MG4012> this<MG3778> issue<MG2213>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Therefore<MG3767>, after being sent<MG4311> on<MG4311> their way<MG4311> by the church<MG1577>, they were passing<MG1330> through<MG1330> both<MG5037> Phoenicia<MG5403> and Samaria<MG4540>, describing<MG1555> in<MG1555> detail<MG1555> the conversion<MG1995> of the Gentiles<MG1484>, and they were bringing<MG4160> great<MG3173> joy<MG5479> to all<MG3956> the brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>When they arrived<MG3854> in Jerusalem<MG2414>, they were received<MG3858> by the church<MG1577>, the apostles<MG652>, and the elders<MG4245>, and they reported<MG312> all<MG3745> that<MG3745> God<MG2316> had done<MG4160> with them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>But some<MG5100> of the sect<MG139> of the Pharisees<MG5330> who had believed<MG4100> stood<MG1817> up<MG1817>, saying<MG3004>, &#8220;It is necessary<MG1163> to circumcise<MG4059> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>them and to direct<MG3853> them to keep<MG5083> the Law<MG3551> of Moses<MG3475>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>The apostles<MG652> and the elders<MG4245> came<MG4863> together<MG4863> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>look<MG3708> into this<MG3778> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>matter<MG3056>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>After there had been<MG1096> much<MG4183> debate<MG2214>, Peter<MG4074> stood<MG450> up<MG450> and said<MG3004> to them, &#8220;<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Brothers<MG435, 80>, you know<MG1987> that <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>in the early<MG744> days<MG2250> God<MG2316> made<MG1586> a<MG1586> choice<MG1586> among<MG1722> you, that by my mouth<MG4750> the Gentiles<MG1484> would hear<MG191> the word<MG3056> of the gospel<MG2098> and believe<MG4100>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And God<MG2316>, who<MG2589> knows<MG2589> the<MG2589> heart<MG2589>, testified<MG3140> to them giving<MG1325> them the Holy<MG40> Spirit<MG4151>, just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> He also<MG2532> did to us; <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>and He made<MG1252> no<MG3762> distinction<MG1252> between<MG3342> us and them, cleansing<MG2511> their hearts<MG2588> by faith<MG4102>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Since<MG3767> this<MG3568> <i>is the</i> case<MG3568>, why<MG5101> are you putting<MG3985> God<MG2316> to<MG3985> the<MG3985> test<MG3985> by placing<MG2007> upon the neck<MG5137> of the disciples<MG3101> a yoke<MG2218> which<MG3739> neither<MG3777> our forefathers<MG3962> nor<MG3777> we have been<MG2480> able<MG2480> to bear<MG941>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>But we believe<MG4100> that we are saved<MG4982> through<MG1223> the grace<MG5485> of the Lord<MG2962> Jesus<MG2424>, in the same<MG3739> way<MG5158> as they also<MG2548> are.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>All<MG3956> the people<MG4128> kept<MG4601> silent<MG4601>, and they were listening<MG191> to Barnabas<MG921> and Paul<MG3972> as they were relating<MG1834> all<MG3745> the signs<MG4592> and wonders<MG5059> that<MG3745> God<MG2316> had done<MG4160> through<MG1223> them among<MG1722> the Gentiles<MG1484>. <p class="hdg">James&#8217; Judgment</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>After<MG3326> they stopped<MG4601> speaking<MG4601>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>James<MG2385> responded<MG611>, saying<MG3004>, &#8220;<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>Brothers<MG435, 80>, listen<MG191> to me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Simeon<MG4826> has described<MG1834> how<MG2531a> God<MG2316> first<MG4413> concerned<MG1980a> Himself about<MG1980a> taking<MG2983> a people<MG2992> for His name<MG3686> from among<MG1537> the Gentiles<MG1484>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>The words<MG3056> of the Prophets<MG4396> agree<MG4856> with this<MG3778>, just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> it is written<MG1125>: <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>&#8216;AFTER<MG3326> THESE<MG3778> THINGS<MG3778> I will return<MG390>, <t><p class="indent1">AND I WILL REBUILD<MG456> THE FALLEN<MG4098> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>TABERNACLE<MG4633> OF DAVID<MG1160b>, <t><p class="indent1">AND I WILL REBUILD<MG456> ITS RUINS<MG2690>, <t><p class="indent1">AND I WILL RESTORE<MG461> IT, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>SO<MG3704> THAT<MG3704> THE REST<MG2645> OF MANKIND<MG444> MAY SEEK<MG1567a> THE LORD<MG2962>, <t><p class="indent1">AND ALL<MG3956> THE GENTILES<MG1484> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>WHO<MG3739> ARE CALLED<MG1941> BY MY NAME<MG3686>,&#8217; and after gathering<MG4863> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>congregation<MG4128> together<MG4863>, they delivered<MG1929> the letter<MG1992>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>When they had read<MG314> it, they rejoiced<MG5463> because<MG1909> of its <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>encouragement<MG3874>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Judas<MG2455> and Silas<MG4609>, also<MG2532> being<MG1510> prophets<MG4396> themselves<MG846>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>encouraged<MG3870> and strengthened<MG1991> the brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters</i> with a lengthy<MG4183> message<MG3056>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>After they had spent<MG4160> time<MG5550> <i>there,</i> they were sent<MG630> away<MG630> from the brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters</i> in peace<MG1515> to those<MG3588> who had sent<MG649> them out<MG649>.<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>But Paul<MG3972> and Barnabas<MG921> stayed<MG1304> in Antioch<MG490>, teaching<MG1321> and preaching<MG2097> the word<MG3056> of the Lord<MG2962>, with many<MG4183> others<MG2087> also<MG2532>. <p class="hdg">Second Missionary Journey</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/acts/15-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>After<MG3326> some<MG5100> days<MG2250> Paul<MG3972> said<MG3004> to Barnabas<MG921>, &#8220;Let&#8217;s return<MG1994> and visit<MG1980a> the brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters</i> in every<MG3956> city<MG4172> in which<MG3739> we proclaimed<MG2605> the word<MG3056> of the Lord<MG2962>, <i>and see</i> how<MG4459> they are.&#8221;
