By proving the comprehensive evaluation of reasons and consequences of IPO initiatives in Croatia we give analytic evidence on the influence of this corporate action on the development of corporate governance. Furthermore, the paper discusses the relationship between internal and external corporate governance mechanisms in companies that initialize entering the financial markets. The paper will provide a synthesis of evidence of IPO-s in Croatia based on in-depth case studies of 13 cases of IPO-s. The major findings of the paper include identification of reasons for conducting IPO-s and calculation of underpricing effect and change of market capitalization. To the best of the author's knowledge, the results of the paper provide the analytical framework for understanding the impact of IPOs on the corporate governance system in transition countries. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corporate%20governance" title="corporate governance">corporate governance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Croatia" title=" Croatia"> Croatia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20public%20offering" title=" initial public offering"> initial public offering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transition%20economy" title=" transition economy"> transition economy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98131/corporate-governance-and-initial-public-offerings-case-of-croatia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98131.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">164</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3168</span> Batch Biodrying of Pulp and Paper Secondary Sludge: Influence of Initial Moisture Content on the Process</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=C%C3%A9sar%20Huili%C3%B1ir">César Huiliñir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Danilo%20Villanueva"> Danilo Villanueva</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pedro%20Iv%C3%A1n%20Alvarez"> Pedro Iván Alvarez</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Francisco%20Cubillos"> Francisco Cubillos</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Biodrying aims at removing water from biowastes and has been mostly studied for municipal solid wastes (MSW), while few studies have dealt with secondary sludge from the paper and pulp industry. The goal of this study was to investigate the effect of initial moisture content (MC) on the batch biodrying of pulp and paper secondary sludge, using rice husks as bulking agents. Three initial MCs were studied (54, 65, and 74% w.b.) in closed batch laboratory-scale reactors under adiabatic conditions and with a constant air-flow rate (0.65 l min-1 kg-1 wet solid). The initial MC of the mixture of secondary sludge and rice husks showed a significant effect on the biodrying process. Using initial moisture content between 54-65% w.b., the solid moisture content was reduce up to 37 % w.b. in ten days, getting calorific values between 8000-9000 kJ kg-1. It was concluded that a decreasing of initial MC improves the drying rate and decreases the solid volatile consumption, therefore, the optimization of biodrying should consider this parameter. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biodrying" title="biodrying">biodrying</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=secondary%20sludge" title=" secondary sludge"> secondary sludge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20moisture%20content" title=" initial moisture content"> initial moisture content</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pulp%20and%20paper%20industry" title=" pulp and paper industry"> pulp and paper industry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rice%20husk" title=" rice husk "> rice husk </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18173/batch-biodrying-of-pulp-and-paper-secondary-sludge-influence-of-initial-moisture-content-on-the-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/18173.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">510</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3167</span> Relation between Initial Stability of the Dental Implant and Bone-Implant Contact Level</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jui-Ting%20Hsu">Jui-Ting Hsu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heng-Li%20Huang"> Heng-Li Huang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ming-Tzu%20Tsai"> Ming-Tzu Tsai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuo-Chih%20Su"> Kuo-Chih Su</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lih-Jyh%20Fuh"> Lih-Jyh Fuh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The objectives of this study were to measure the initial stability of the dental implant (ISQ and PTV) in the artificial foam bone block with three different quality levels. In the case of multiple choices, the search for the initial marking leads to a problem of optimization of the minimum allocation of resources with two constraints. The first concerns the firing sequence that could be legal on the initial marking with respect to the firing vector. The second deals with the total number of tokens that can be minimal. In this article, the MIM problem is solved by the meta-heuristic particle swarm optimization (PSO). The proposed approach presents the advantages of PSO to satisfy the two previous constraints and find all possible combinations of minimum initial marking with the best computing time. This method, more efficient than conventional ones, has an excellent impact on the resolution of the MIM problem. We prove through a set of definitions, lemmas, and examples, the effectiveness of our approach. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marking" title="marking">marking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=production%20system" title=" production system"> production system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=labeled%20Petri%20nets" title=" labeled Petri nets"> labeled Petri nets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20swarm%20optimization" title=" particle swarm optimization"> particle swarm optimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98499/particle-swarm-optimization-based-method-for-minimum-initial-marking-in-labeled-petri-nets" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98499.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">179</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3165</span> Developmental Trends on Initial Letter Fluency in Typically Developing Children</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sunila%20John">Sunila John</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=B.%20Rajashekhar"> B. This task requires the participant to retrieve as many words as possible beginning with a particular letter in a fixed time frame. Though the task of verbal fluency is popular among adult clinical conditions, its role in children has been less emphasized. There exists a lack of in-depth understanding of processes underlying verbal fluency performance in typically developing children. The present study, therefore, aims to delineate the developmental trend on initial letter fluency task observed in typically developing Malayalam speaking children. The participants were aged between 5 to 10 years and categorized into three groups: Group I (class I and II, mean (SD) age years: 6.44(.78)), Group II (class III and IV, mean (SD) age years: 8.59 (.83)) and group III (class V and VI, mean (SD) age years: 10.28 (.80). On two tasks of initial letter fluency, the verbal fluency outcome measures were analyzed. The study findings revealed a distinct pattern of initial letter fluency development which may enhance its usefulness in clinical and research settings. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=children" title="children">children</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=development" title=" development"> development</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20letter%20fluency" title=" initial letter fluency"> initial letter fluency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=word%20retrieval" title=" word retrieval"> word retrieval</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25478/developmental-trends-on-initial-letter-fluency-in-typically-developing-children" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25478.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">461</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3164</span> Fast Algorithm to Determine Initial Tsunami Wave Shape at Source</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alexander%20P.%20Vazhenin">Alexander P. The existing methods; geological, sea radars, satellite images, contain an important part of uncertainty. Therefore, direct measurement of tsunami waves obtained at the deep water bottom peruse recorders is also used. In this paper we propose a new method to reconstruct the initial sea surface displacement at tsunami source by the measured signal (marigram) approximation with the help of linear combination of synthetic marigrams from the selected set of unit sources, calculated in advance. This method has demonstrated good precision and very high performance. The method has been used for solving several problems in science. It requires the initial condition, so it solves the initial value problem. In physics, when some important terms are taken in account, we may obtain non-integrable partial differential equations that do not have analytical integrals. This type of PDEs do not have exact solution, therefore, we need to compute the solution without initial condition. In this work, we improved the LHPM to be able to solve non-integrable problem, especially the damped PDEs, which are the PDEs that include a damping term which makes the PDEs non-integrable. We improved the LHPM by setting a perturbation parameter and an embedding parameter as the damping parameter and using the initial condition for damped PDE as the initial condition for non-damped PDE. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-integrable%20PDEs" title="non-integrable PDEs">non-integrable PDEs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modified%20Kawahara%20equation%3B" title=" modified Kawahara equation;"> modified Kawahara equation;</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=laplace%20homotopy%20perturbation%20method" title=" laplace homotopy perturbation method"> laplace homotopy perturbation method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping%20term" title=" damping term"> damping term</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172304/the-improved-laplace-homotopy-perturbation-method-for-solving-non-integrable-pdes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/172304.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">100</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3162</span> Measure-Valued Solutions to a Class of Nonlinear Parabolic Equations with Degenerate Coercivity and Singular Initial Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Flavia%20Smarrazzo">Flavia Smarrazzo</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Initial-boundary value problems for nonlinear parabolic equations having a Radon measure as initial data have been widely investigated, looking for solutions which for positive times take values in some function space. On the other hand, if the diffusivity degenerates too fast at infinity, it is well known that function-valued solutions may not exist, singularities may persist, and it looks very natural to consider solutions which, roughly speaking, for positive times describe an orbit in the space of the finite Radon measures. In this general framework, our purpose is to introduce a concept of measure-valued solution which is consistent with respect to regularizing and smoothing approximations, in order to develop an existence theory which does not depend neither on the level of degeneracy of diffusivity at infinity nor on the choice of the initial measures. In more detail, we prove existence of suitably defined measure-valued solutions to the homogeneous Dirichlet initial-boundary value problem for a class of nonlinear parabolic equations without strong coerciveness. Moreover, we also discuss some qualitative properties of the constructed solutions concerning the evolution of their singular part, including conditions (depending both on the initial data and on the strength of degeneracy) under which the constructed solutions are in fact unction-valued or not. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=degenerate%20parabolic%20equations" title="degenerate parabolic equations">degenerate parabolic equations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=measure-valued%20solutions" title=" measure-valued solutions"> measure-valued solutions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Radon%20measures" title=" Radon measures"> Radon measures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=young%20measures" title=" young measures"> young measures</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67367/measure-valued-solutions-to-a-class-of-nonlinear-parabolic-equations-with-degenerate-coercivity-and-singular-initial-data" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/67367.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">281</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3161</span> Research on Key Technologies on Initial Installation of Ultra-Deep-Water Dynamic Umbilical</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Weiwei%20Xie">Weiwei Xie</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yichao%20Li"> Yichao Li</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The initial installation of the umbilical can affect the subsequent installation process and final installation. However, while the current literature outlines indications for initial BCs to be taken, there is little guidance for repeat sampling in the following 5-day period and little information on how antibiotic use can affect the usefulness of this investigation. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using inpatients who had undergone 2 or more BCs within 5 days between April 2016 and April 2017 at a 400-bed hospital in the west of Scotland and received antibiotic therapy between the first and second BCs. The data for BC sampling was collected from the electronic microbiology database, and cross-referenced with data from the hospital electronic prescribing system. Overall, 283 BCs were included in the study, taken from 92 patients (mean 3.08 cultures per patient, range 2-10). All 92 patients had initial BCs, of which 83 were positive (90%). 65 had a further sample within 24 hours of commencement of antibiotics, with 35 positive (54%). 23 had samples within 24-48 hours, with 4 (17%) positive; 12 patients had sampling at 48-72 hours, 12 at 72-96 hours, and 10 at 96-120 hours, with none positive. McNemar’s Exact Test was used to calculate statistical significance for patients who received blood cultures in multiple time blocks (Initial, < 24h, 24-120h, > 120h). For initial vs. < 24h-post BCs (53 patients tested), the proportion of positives fell from 46/53 to 29/53 (one-tailed P=0.002, OR 3.43, 95% CI 1.48-7.96). For initial vs 24-120h (n=42), the proportions were 38/42 and 4/42 respectively (P < 0.001, OR 35.0, 95% CI 4.79-255.48). For initial vs > 120h (n=36), these were 33/36 and 2/36 (P < 0.001,OR ∞). These were also calculated for a positive in initial or < 24h vs. 24-120h (n=42), with proportions of 41/42 and 4/42 (P < 0.001, OR 38.0, 95% CI 5.22-276.78); and for initial or < 24h vs > 120h (n=36), with proportions of 35/36 and 2/36 respectively (P < 0.001, OR ∞). This data appears to show that taking an initial BC followed by a BC within 24 hours of antibiotic commencement would maximise blood culture yield while minimising the risk of false negative results. This could potentially remove the need for as many as 46% of BC samples without adversely affecting patient care. BC yield decreases sharply after 48 hours of antibiotic use, and may not provide any clinically useful information after this time. Further multi-centre studies would validate these findings, and provide a foundation for future health policy generation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antibiotics" title="antibiotics">antibiotics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blood%20culture" title=" blood culture"> blood culture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=efficacy" title=" efficacy"> efficacy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inpatient" title=" inpatient"> inpatient</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82846/the-effect-of-antibiotic-use-on-blood-cultures-implications-for-future-policy" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82846.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">173</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3158</span> Optimization Study of Adsorption of Nickel(II) on Bentonite </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=B.%20Medjahed">B. The study of the effect of the ionic strength on the yield of adsorption was examined by the identification and the quantification of the present chemical species in the aqueous phase containing the metallic ion Ni(II). The adsorbed species were investigated by a calculation program using CHEAQS V. L20.1 in order to determine the relation between the percentages of the adsorbed species and the adsorption yield. An interesting and important issue is the effects of the initial state on the final steady-state opinion distribution. By carrying out extensive simulations and providing necessary discussions, we show that, while different initial opinion distributions certainly make differences to opinion evolution in social systems without noises, in systems with noises, given enough time, different initial states basically do not contribute to making any significant differences in the final steady state. Instead, it is the basal distribution of the preferred opinions that contributes to deciding the final state of the systems. We briefly explain the reasons leading to the observed conclusions. Such an observation contradicts with a long-term belief on the roles of system initial state in opinion formation, demonstrating the dominating role that opinion mutation can play in opinion formation given enough time. The observation may help to better understand certain observations of opinion evolution dynamics in real-life social networks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=opinion%20formation" title="opinion formation">opinion formation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Deffuant%20model" title=" Deffuant model"> Deffuant model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=opinion%20mutation" title=" opinion mutation"> opinion mutation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=consensus%20making" title=" consensus making"> consensus making</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94023/effects-of-initial-state-on-opinion-formation-in-complex-social-networks-with-noises" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94023.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">178</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3156</span> Effect the Use of Steel Fibers (Dramix) on Reinforced Concrete Slab</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Faisal%20Ananda">Faisal Ananda</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Junaidi%20Al-Husein"> Junaidi Al-Husein</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Oni%20Febriani"> Oni Febriani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Juli%20Ardita"> Juli Ardita</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=N.%20Indra"> N. Fiber concrete has advantages over non-fiber concrete, among others, strong against the effect of shrinkage, ability to reduce crack, fire resistance, etc. In this study, concrete mix design using the procedures listed on SNI 03-2834-2000. The sample used is a cylinder with a height of 30 cm and a width of 15cm in diameter, which is used for compression and tensile testing, while the slab is 400cm x 100cm x 15cm. The fiber used is steel fiber (dramix), with the addition of 2/3 of the thickness of the slabs. The charging is done using a two-point loading. Otherwise, the initial value problem is usually ill-posed, which lead to theoretical and numerical complications. In the presentation, it is proposed to apply the theory of hybrid dynamical systems, rather than switched ones, to regularize the problem. 'Hybridization' of the switched system means that one attaches a dynamic discrete component ('automaton'), which follows the trajectories of the original system and governs its dynamics at the points of ill-posedness of the initial value problem making it well-posed. The construction of the automaton is based on the classification of the attractors of the specially designed adjoint dynamical system. Several examples are provided in the presentation, which support the suggested analysis. The method can also be of interest in other applied fields, where differential equations contain switchings, e.g. in neural field models. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20dynamical%20systems" title="hybrid dynamical systems">hybrid dynamical systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ill-posed%20problems" title=" ill-posed problems"> ill-posed problems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=singular%20perturbation%20analysis" title=" singular perturbation analysis"> singular perturbation analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=switching%20nonlinearities" title=" switching nonlinearities"> switching nonlinearities</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85884/solving-ill-posed-initial-value-problems-for-switched-differential-equations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85884.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">185</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3154</span> Relations of Progression in Cognitive Decline with Initial EEG Resting-State Functional Network in Mild Cognitive Impairment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chia-Feng%20Lu">Chia-Feng Lu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yuh-Jen%20Wang"> Yuh-Jen Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu-Te%20Wu"> Yu-Te Wu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sui-Hing%20Yan"> Sui-Hing Yan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study aimed at investigating whether the functional brain networks constructed using the initial EEG (obtained when patients first visited hospital) can be correlated with the progression of cognitive decline calculated as the changes of mini-mental state examination (MMSE) scores between the latest and initial examinations. It is part of the IFITIC Project &quot;Innovate with ICT in Initial Teacher Training to Promote Methodological Renewal in Pre-school Education and in the 1st and 2nd Basic Education Cycle&quot; which involves the School of Education, Polytechnic of Porto and Institute of Education, University of Minho. The Project aims at rethinking educational practice with ICT in the initial training of future teachers in order to promote methodological innovation in Pre-school Education and in the 1st and 2nd Cycles of Basic Education. A qualitative methodology was used, in which a questionnaire survey was applied to teachers in initial training. For data analysis, the techniques of content analysis with the support of <em>NVivo</em> <em>software</em> were used. The results point to the following aspects: a) future teachers recognize that they have more technical knowledge about ICT than pedagogical knowledge. This result makes sense if we consider the objective of Basic Education, so that the gaps can be filled in the Master&#39;s Course by students who wish to follow the teaching; b) the respondents are aware that the integration of digital resources contributes positively to students&#39; learning and to the life of children and young people, which also promotes preparation in life; c) to be a teacher in the digital age there is a need for the development of digital literacy, lifelong learning and the adoption of new ways of teaching how to learn. Thus, this study aims to contribute to a reflection on the teaching profession in the digital age. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=digital%20technologies" title="digital technologies">digital technologies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20teacher%20training" title=" initial teacher training"> initial teacher training</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pedagogical%20use%20of%20ICT" title=" pedagogical use of ICT"> pedagogical use of ICT</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=skills" title=" skills"> skills</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130818/the-pedagogical-integration-of-digital-technologies-in-initial-teacher-training" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130818.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">122</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3151</span> Maximum Initial Input Allowed to Iterative Learning Control Set-up Using Singular Values</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naser%20Alajmi">Naser Alajmi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Alobaidly"> Ali Alobaidly</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mubarak%20Alhajri"> Mubarak Alhajri</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salem%20Salamah"> Salem Salamah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Alsubaie"> Muhammad Alsubaie</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Iterative Learning Control (ILC) known to be a controlling tool to overcome periodic disturbances for repetitive systems. This technique is required to let the error signal tends to zero as the number of operation increases. The learning process that lies within this context is strongly dependent on the initial input which if selected properly tends to let the learning process be more effective compared to the case where a system starts from blind. ILC uses previous recorded execution data to update the following execution/trial input such that a reference trajectory is followed to a high accuracy. Error convergence in ILC is generally highly dependent on the input applied to a plant for trial $1$, thus a good choice of initial starting input signal would make learning faster and as a consequence the error tends to zero faster as well. In the work presented within, an upper limit based on the Singular Values Principle (SV) is derived for the initial input signal applied at trial $1$ such that the system follow the reference in less number of trials without responding aggressively or exceeding the working envelope where a system is required to move within in a robot arm, for example. Simulation results presented illustrate the theory introduced within this paper. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20input" title="initial input">initial input</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=iterative%20learning%20control" title=" iterative learning control"> iterative learning control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maximum%20input" title=" maximum input"> maximum input</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=singular%20values" title=" singular values"> singular values</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/80692/maximum-initial-input-allowed-to-iterative-learning-control-set-up-using-singular-values" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/80692.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">241</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3150</span> The Effect of Initial Sample Size and Increment in Simulation Samples on a Sequential Selection Approach </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20H.%20Almomani">Mohammad H. The sequential approach consists of two stages. In the first stage the ordinal optimization is used to select a subset that overlaps with the set of actual best k% designs with high probability. Then in the second stage the optimal computing budget is used to select the top m designs from the selected subset. We apply the selection approach on a generic example under some parameter settings, with a different choice of initial sample size and the increment in simulation samples, to explore the impacts on the performance of this approach. The results show that the choice of initial sample size and the increment in simulation samples does affect the performance of a selection approach. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Large%20Scale%20Problems" title="Large Scale Problems">Large Scale Problems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Optimal%20Computing%20Budget%20Allocation" title=" Optimal Computing Budget Allocation"> Optimal Computing Budget Allocation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ordinal%20optimization" title=" ordinal optimization"> ordinal optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simulation%20optimization" title=" simulation optimization"> simulation optimization</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45545/the-effect-of-initial-sample-size-and-increment-in-simulation-samples-on-a-sequential-selection-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/45545.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">355</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3149</span> Geometrically Nonlinear Analysis of Initially Stressed Hybrid Laminated Composite Structures</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Moumita%20Sit">Moumita Sit</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chaitali%20Ray"> Chaitali Ray</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present article deals with the free vibration analysis of hybrid laminated composite structures with initial stresses developed in the laminates. Generally initial stresses may be developed in the laminates by temperature and moisture effect. In this study, an eight noded isoparametric plate bending element has been used for the finite element analysis of composite plates. A numerical model has been developed to assess the geometric nonlinear response of composite plates based on higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) considering the Green–Lagrange type nonlinearity. A computer code based on finite element method (FEM) has also been developed in MATLAB to perform the numerical calculations. To validate the accuracy of the proposed numerical model, the results obtained from the present study are compared with those available in published literature. Effects of the side to thickness ratio, different boundary conditions and initial stresses on the natural frequency of composite plates have been studied. The free vibration analysis of a hollow stiffened hybrid laminated panel has also been carried out considering initial stresses and presented as case study. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=geometric%20nonlinearity" title="geometric nonlinearity">geometric nonlinearity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=higher%20order%20shear%20deformation%20theory%20%28HSDT%29" title=" higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT)"> higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20composite%20laminate" title=" hybrid composite laminate"> hybrid composite laminate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=the%20initial%20stress" title=" the initial stress"> the initial stress</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/93050/geometrically-nonlinear-analysis-of-initially-stressed-hybrid-laminated-composite-structures" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/93050.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">150</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3148</span> A Family of Second Derivative Methods for Numerical Integration of Stiff Initial Value Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luke%20Ukpebor">Luke Ukpebor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=C.%20E.%20Abhulimen"> C. Conventional numerical integration solvers cannot cope effectively with stiff problems as they lack adequate stability characteristics. In this article, we developed a new family of four-step second derivative exponentially fitted method of order six for the numerical integration of stiff initial value problem of general first order differential equations. In deriving our method, we employed the idea of breaking down the general multi-derivative multistep method into predator and corrector schemes which possess free parameters that allow for automatic fitting into exponential functions. The stability analysis of the method was discussed and the method was implemented with numerical examples. The result shows that the method is A-stable and competes favorably with existing methods in terms of efficiency and accuracy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=A-stable" title="A-stable">A-stable</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exponentially%20fitted" title=" exponentially fitted"> exponentially fitted</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=four%20step" title=" four step"> four step</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=predator-corrector" title=" predator-corrector"> predator-corrector</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=second%20derivative" title=" second derivative"> second derivative</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stiff%20initial%20value%20problems" title=" stiff initial value problems"> stiff initial value problems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73388/a-family-of-second-derivative-methods-for-numerical-integration-of-stiff-initial-value-problems-in-ordinary-differential-equations" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/73388.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">258</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3147</span> Methodologies for Crack Initiation in Welded Joints Applied to Inspection Planning</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guang%20Zou">Guang Zou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kian%20Banisoleiman"> Kian Banisoleiman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arturo%20Gonz%C3%A1lez"> Arturo González</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Crack initiation and propagation threatens structural integrity of welded joints and normally inspections are assigned based on crack propagation models. However, the approach based on crack propagation models may not be applicable for some high-quality welded joints, because the initial flaws in them may be so small that it may take long time for the flaws to develop into a detectable size. This raises a concern regarding the inspection planning of high-quality welded joins, as there is no generally acceptable approach for modeling the whole fatigue process that includes the crack initiation period. In order to address the issue, this paper reviews treatment methods for crack initiation period and initial crack size in crack propagation models applied to inspection planning. Generally, there are four approaches, by: 1) Neglecting the crack initiation period and fitting a probabilistic distribution for initial crack size based on statistical data; 2) Extrapolating the crack propagation stage to a very small fictitious initial crack size, so that the whole fatigue process can be modeled by crack propagation models; 3) Assuming a fixed detectable initial crack size and fitting a probabilistic distribution for crack initiation time based on specimen tests; and, 4) Modeling the crack initiation and propagation stage separately using small crack growth theories and Paris law or similar models. The conclusion is that in view of trade-off between accuracy and computation efforts, calibration of a small fictitious initial crack size to S-N curves is the most efficient approach. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crack%20initiation" title="crack initiation">crack initiation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fatigue%20reliability" title=" fatigue reliability"> fatigue reliability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inspection%20planning" title=" inspection planning"> inspection planning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=welded%20joints" title=" welded joints"> welded joints</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57736/methodologies-for-crack-initiation-in-welded-joints-applied-to-inspection-planning" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/57736.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">353</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3146</span> Seedling Emergence and Initial Growth of Different Plants after Trichoderma sp. Beneficial fungi with broad-host range undergo long-term interactions with a large variety of plants thereby playing a significant role in managed ecosystems and in the adaptation of crops to global climate changes. Trichoderma spp. are promising fungi toward the development of sustainable agriculture. The aim of our experiment was to investigate the effect of seed inoculation of sunflower, maize, soybean, paprika, melon, and watermelon seeds with Trichoderma sp. on early seed germination energy and initial growth of the plant. The seed inoculation with Trichoderma sp. increased the seedling emergence from 7, 85% in melon to 156,70% in watermelon. The inoculation had the best effect on initial growth of maize shoot (+23,80%) and soybean root (+106,30%). The different response of seed and young plants on Trichoderma sp. inoculation implicate the need for future investigations of successful inoculation systems and modes of their integration in sustainable agriculture production systems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20growth" title="initial growth">initial growth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inoculation" title=" inoculation"> inoculation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=seedling" title=" seedling"> seedling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Trichoderma%20sp." title=" Trichoderma sp."> Trichoderma sp.</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/80517/seedling-emergence-and-initial-growth-of-different-plants-after-trichoderma-sp-inoculation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/80517.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">240</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3145</span> Estimation of the Effect of Initial Damping Model and Hysteretic Model on Dynamic Characteristics of Structure</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shinji%20Ukita">Shinji Ukita</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naohiro%20Nakamura"> Naohiro Nakamura</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yuji%20Miyazu"> Yuji Miyazu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In considering the dynamic characteristics of structure, natural frequency and damping ratio are useful indicator. When performing dynamic design, it's necessary to select an appropriate initial damping model and hysteretic model. In the linear region, the setting of initial damping model influences the response, and in the nonlinear region, the combination of initial damping model and hysteretic model influences the response. However, the dynamic characteristics of structure in the nonlinear region remain unclear. In this paper, we studied the effect of setting of initial damping model and hysteretic model on the dynamic characteristics of structure. On initial damping model setting, Initial stiffness proportional, Tangent stiffness proportional, and Rayleigh-type were used. On hysteretic model setting, TAKEDA model and Normal-trilinear model were used. As a study method, dynamic analysis was performed using a lumped mass model of base-fixed. During analysis, the maximum acceleration of input earthquake motion was gradually increased from 1 to 600 gal. The dynamic characteristics were calculated using the ARX model. Then, the characteristics of 1st and 2nd natural frequency and 1st damping ratio were evaluated. Input earthquake motion was simulated wave that the Building Center of Japan has published. On the building model, an RC building with 30×30m planes on each floor was assumed. The story height was 3m and the maximum height was 18m. Unit weight for each floor was 1.0t/m2. The building natural period was set to 0.36sec, and the initial stiffness of each floor was calculated by assuming the 1st mode to be an inverted triangle. First, we investigated the difference of the dynamic characteristics depending on the difference of initial damping model setting. With the increase in the maximum acceleration of the input earthquake motions, the 1st and 2nd natural frequency decreased, and the 1st damping ratio increased. Then, in the natural frequency, the difference due to initial damping model setting was small, but in the damping ratio, a significant difference was observed (Initial stiffness proportional≒Rayleigh type>Tangent stiffness proportional). The acceleration and the displacement of the earthquake response were largest in the tangent stiffness proportional. In the range where the acceleration response increased, the damping ratio was constant. In the range where the acceleration response was constant, the damping ratio increased. Next, we investigated the difference of the dynamic characteristics depending on the difference of hysteretic model setting. With the increase in the maximum acceleration of the input earthquake motions, the natural frequency decreased in TAKEDA model, but in Normal-trilinear model, the natural frequency didn’t change. The damping ratio in TAKEDA model was higher than that in Normal-trilinear model, although, both in TAKEDA model and Normal-trilinear model, the damping ratio increased. In conclusion, in initial damping model setting, the tangent stiffness proportional was evaluated the most. In the hysteretic model setting, TAKEDA model was more appreciated than the Normal-trilinear model in the nonlinear region. Our results would provide useful indicator on dynamic design. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20damping%20model" title="initial damping model">initial damping model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping%20ratio" title=" damping ratio"> damping ratio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dynamic%20analysis" title=" dynamic analysis"> dynamic analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hysteretic%20model" title=" hysteretic model"> hysteretic model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20frequency" title=" natural frequency"> natural frequency</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84895/estimation-of-the-effect-of-initial-damping-model-and-hysteretic-model-on-dynamic-characteristics-of-structure" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/84895.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">178</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3144</span> An Audit of Restaging Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (Re-TURBT) Quality in a District General Hospital</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rizwan%20Iqbal">Rizwan Iqbal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Introduction: Re-TURBT has been recommended by international guidelines for patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) who are deemed high-risk. Indications for re-TURBTs remain controversial and studies show mixed outcomes. It should be performed when the initial TURBT specimen lacks detrusor muscle, has tumor stage pT1 or G3/high-grade, or where resection is deemed incomplete. This ensures complete resection of tumors that have a high risk of recurrence as well as accurately identifying any tumors which have been upstaged. The aim of this audit was to evaluate the quality of re-TURBTs in a district general hospital. Method: Data were retrospectively collected from 31 patients who had re-TURBTs between April 2021 and September 2022. Data included baseline demographics, time from initial to re-TURBT, quality of operation note, presence of residual tumor, complications, and administration of chemotherapy within 24 hours of the initial TURBT. Data collection remains ongoing at the time of writing. Results: The mean age was 76 years old and 71.0% of patients were male. 32.3% of patients had their re-TURBT within six weeks and 32.3% had intravesical chemotherapy administered within 24 hours of the initial TURBT. 74.2% of initial TURBTs had detrusor muscle present in the specimen. 48.4% of patients had residual disease following re-TURBT. Just one patient had their pathology upstaged at re-TURBT. The use of the TURBT proforma on the operation note was variable, with 51.6% and 38.7% of surgeons using the proforma after the initial and re-TURBT. Conclusion: Re-TURBT improves bladder cancer staging and is necessary in patients who are deemed high-risk in order to identify any upstaging or recurrence of the disease. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=urology" title="urology">urology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bladder%20cancer" title=" bladder cancer"> bladder cancer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=turbt" title=" turbt"> turbt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cancer" title=" cancer"> cancer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163102/an-audit-of-restaging-transurethral-resection-of-bladder-tumor-re-turbt-quality-in-a-district-general-hospital" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/163102.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">62</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3143</span> Correlation between Initial Absorption of the Cover Concrete, the Compressive Strength and Carbonation Depth</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bouzidi%20Yassine">Bouzidi Yassine</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This experimental work was aimed to characterize the porosity of the concrete cover zone using the capillary absorption test, and establish the links between open porosity characterized by the initial absorption, the compressive strength and carbonation depth. Eight formulations of workability similar made from ordinary Portland cement (CEM I 42.5) and a compound cement (CEM II/B 42.5) four of each type are studied. The results allow us to highlight the effect of the cement type. Indeed, concretes-based cement CEM II/B 42.5 carbonatent approximately faster than concretes-based cement CEM I 42.5. This effect is attributed in part to the lower content of portlandite Ca(OH)2 of concretes-based cement CEM II/B 42.5, but also the impact of the cement type on the open porosity of the cover concrete. The open porosity of concretes-based cement CEM I 42.5 is lower than that of concretes-based cement CEM II/B 42.5. The carbonation depth is a decreasing function of the compressive strength at 28 days and increases with the initial absorption. Through the results obtained, correlations between the quantity of water absorbed in 1 h, the carbonation depth at 180 days and the compressive strength at 28 days were performed in an acceptable manner. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=initial%20absorption" title="initial absorption">initial absorption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cover%20concrete" title=" cover concrete"> cover concrete</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=compressive%20strength" title=" compressive strength"> compressive strength</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=carbonation%20depth" title=" carbonation depth "> carbonation depth </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25875/correlation-between-initial-absorption-of-the-cover-concrete-the-compressive-strength-and-carbonation-depth" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/25875.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">336</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3142</span> Optimal Perturbation in an Impulsively Blocked Channel Flow</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Avinash%20Nayak">Avinash Nayak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Debopam%20Das"> Debopam Das</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The current work implements the variational principle to find the optimum initial perturbation that provides maximum growth in an impulsively blocked channel flow. The conventional method for studying temporal stability has always been through modal analysis. In most of the transient flows, this modal analysis is still followed with the quasi-steady assumption, i.e. change in base flow is much slower compared to perturbation growth rate. There are other studies where transient analysis on time dependent flows is done by formulating the growth of perturbation as an initial value problem. But the perturbation growth is sensitive to the initial condition. This study intends to find the initial perturbation that provides the maximum growth at a later time. Here, the expression of base flow for blocked channel is derived and the formulation is based on the two dimensional perturbation with stream function representing the perturbation quantity. Hence, the governing equation becomes the Orr-Sommerfeld equation. In the current context, the cost functional is defined as the ratio of disturbance energy at a terminal time 'T' to the initial energy, i.e. G(T) = ||q(T)||2/||q(0)||2 where q is the perturbation and ||.|| defines the norm chosen. The above cost functional needs to be maximized against the initial perturbation distribution. It is achieved with the constraint that perturbation follows the basic governing equation, i.e. Orr-Sommerfeld equation. The corresponding adjoint equation is derived and is solved along with the basic governing equation in an iterative manner to provide the initial spatial shape of the perturbation that provides the maximum growth G (T). The growth rate is plotted against time showing the development of perturbation which achieves an asymptotic shape. The effects of various parameters, e.g. Reynolds number, are studied in the process. Thus, the study emphasizes on the usage of optimal perturbation and its growth to understand the stability characteristics of time dependent flows. The assumption of quasi-steady analysis can be verified against these results for the transient flows like impulsive blocked channel flow. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blocked%20channel%20flow" title="blocked channel flow">blocked channel flow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=calculus%20of%20variation" title=" calculus of variation"> calculus of variation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hydrodynamic%20stability" title=" hydrodynamic stability"> hydrodynamic stability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimal%20perturbation" title=" optimal perturbation"> optimal perturbation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23334/optimal-perturbation-in-an-impulsively-blocked-channel-flow" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23334.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">421</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3141</span> Optimization of Process Parameters using Response Surface Methodology for the Removal of Zinc(II) by Solvent Extraction </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=B.%20Guezzen">B. The optimization process of extraction parameters such as the initial pH effect (2.5, 4.5, and 6.6), ionic liquid concentration (1, 5.5, and 10 mM) and salt effect (0.01, 5, and 10 mM) was carried out using a three-level full factorial design (33). The results of the factorial design demonstrate that all these factors are statistically significant, including the square effects of pH and ionic liquid concentration. The results showed that the order of significance: IL concentration &gt; salt effect &gt; initial pH. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showing high coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.91) and low probability values (P &lt; 0.05) signifies the validity of the predicted second-order quadratic model for Zn (II) extraction. The optimum conditions for the extraction of zinc (II) at the constant temperature (20 &deg;C), initial Zn (II) concentration (1mM) and A/O ratio of unity were: initial pH (4.8), extractant concentration (9.9 mM), and NaCl concentration (8.2 mM). At the optimized condition, the metal ion could be quantitatively extracted. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ionic%20liquid"
