when I took my first job at a discount department store. As a sales associate in the ladies’ department, the job was tortuous on a good day. It wouldn’t have been so bad if it weren’t for the customers. They’d trash the department throughout the day, leaving a huge mess for us to clean up once the store closed. We’d spend hours returning clothes left in the dressing rooms to the sales floor, straightening hangers, refolding clothes, and pulling items out of random places where people stashed them.</p><p id="aa5e" class="pw-post-body-paragraph of og ha oh b id oi oj ok ig ol om on oo op oq or os ot ou ov ow ox oy oz pa gt bk">Our department was always the last one to finish straightening up. Sometimes, people from the other departments would help. And other times, they hightailed it out of there without a second thought. (I couldn’t blame them.)
