(ERα) plays an essential role in the adaptation of increased uterine blood flow during gestation. Therefore ERα gene could be a possible candidate for preeclampsia(PE) susceptibility. In the current study, we aimed to investigate the association of the ERα gene polymorphisms and PE in an Iranian population. Methods: One hundred ninety-two pregnant women with PE and 186 normotensive women were genotyped for ERα gene (PvuII and XbaI) polymorphisms by PCR-RFLP method. Results: The frequency of alleles and genotypes of ERα PvuII and XbaI polymorphisms were not different between PE and normotensive control women. However, higher frequency of GG genotype was observed in women with severe PE compared to mild PE (OR, 1.8 [95% CI, 1.1 to 3]; P = 0.02) and in severe PE compared to normotensive women [OR= 1.8(1.1-3), P=0.02] after adjusting for age, ethnicity and primiparity. Conclusions: The GG genotype of ERα XbaI polymorphism could be a genetic risk factor for PE predisposition. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=estrogen%20receptor-%CE%B1" title="estrogen receptor-α">estrogen receptor-α</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=polymorphism" title=" polymorphism"> polymorphism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gene" title=" gene"> gene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=preeclampsia" title=" preeclampsia"> preeclampsia</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65226/the-association-of-estrogen-receptor-alpha-xbai-gg-genotype-and-severe-preeclampsia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65226.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">308</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">40</span> Impacts of Opium Addiction on Patterns of Angiographic Findings in Patients with Coronary Artery Syndrome</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alireza%20Abdiardekani">Alireza Abdiardekani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maryam%20Salimi"> Maryam Salimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shirin%20Sarejloo"> Shirin Sarejloo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Bazrafshan"> Mehdi Bazrafshan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amir%20Askarinejad"> Amir Askarinejad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amirhossein%20Salimi"> Amirhossein Salimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hanieh%20Bazrafshan"> Hanieh Bazrafshan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salar%20Javanshir"> Salar Javanshir</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Armin%20Attar"> Armin Attar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shokoufeh%20Khanzadeh"> Shokoufeh Khanzadeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohsen%20Esmaeili"> Mohsen Esmaeili</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamed%20Bazrafshan%20Drissi"> Hamed Bazrafshan Drissi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Opium, after tobacco, is the most abused substance in the Middle East. The effects of opium use on coronary artery disease are indeed unclear. This study aimed to assess the association between opium use and angiographic findings in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) diagnosis at Al-Zahra Heart Hospital, Shiraz, Iran. Methods: In this case-control study, 170 patients admitted for coronary angiography were enrolled from 2019 to 2020. They were categorized into two groups based on their history: "non-opium" and "opium." SPSS (Version 26) was used to investigate the correlation between opioid addiction and the severity of coronary artery disease. Results: The results of our study reveal that the mean age of the participants was 61.63±9.07. This study indicated that 49 (28.82%) patients were female, and 121 (71.17%) were male. Our findings revealed that three-vessel disease was more frequent in non-opium (40; 47.05%) and opium (45; 52.94%) groups. There was a significant correlation between the severity of the second diagonal artery(D2) and right coronary artery(RCA) involvement and opium consumption. There was a strong positive correlation between the location of the vascular lesion in the left circumflex artery and opium consumption. Conclusion: Opium, as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, can have specific effects on angiographic findings in patients with coronary artery disease. Public health officials and politicians should arrange several programs to increase the general population’s consciousness about opioid use and its consequences. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acute%20coronary%20syndrome" title="acute coronary syndrome">acute coronary syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=opium" title=" opium"> opium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coronary%20artery%20disease" title=" coronary artery disease"> coronary artery disease</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=angiography" title=" angiography"> angiography</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154519/impacts-of-opium-addiction-on-patterns-of-angiographic-findings-in-patients-with-coronary-artery-syndrome" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/154519.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">131</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">39</span> Investigating the Effects of Empowering the Employees in Managing Crimes by the Police</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akbar%20Salimi">Akbar Salimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Moghimi"> Mehdi Moghimi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Goal: The human resource empowerment is a new strategy in achieving a competitive advantage. So it is very important for cancer diagnosis that medical procedures are performed. In this paper we introduce a new method. In this method, we only need pictures of healthy cells and cancer cells. In fact, where we suspect cancer, we take a picture of cells or tissue in that area, and then take some pictures of the surrounding tissues. Then, fractal dimension of images are calculated and compared. Cancer can be easily detected by comparing the fractal dimension of images. The extracts taken from six different kinds of tree leaves including <em>Acer negundo, Ficus carica, Cerasus avium, Chimonanthus, Salix babylonica</em> and <em>Pinus brutia</em>, were applied as green reagents for the experiments. In 6-M hydrochloric acid, hafnium reacted with the reagent to form a yellow product and showed maximum absorbance at 421 nm. Among tree leaves, <em>Chimonanthus</em> showed satisfactory results with a molar absorptivity value of 0.61 × 104 l mol-1 cm-1 and the method was linear in the 0.3-9 µg mL -1 concentration range. The detection limit value was 0.064 µg mL-1. Here a proportional - integral (PI)-type current mode control is employed and a sliding mode controller is designed utilizing fuzzy algorithm. Sliding mode controller guarantees robustness against all variations and fuzzy logic helps to reduce chattering phenomenon due to sliding controller, in that way efficiency increases and error, voltage and current ripples decreases. The proposed system is simulated using MATLAB / SIMULINK. This model is tested under variations of input and reference voltages and it was found that in comparison with conventional sliding mode controllers they perform better. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=switching%20mode%20power%20supplies" title="switching mode power supplies">switching mode power supplies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DC-DC%20converters" title=" DC-DC converters"> DC-DC converters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sliding%20mode%20control" title=" sliding mode control"> sliding mode control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=robustness" title=" robustness"> robustness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fuzzy%20control" title=" fuzzy control"> fuzzy control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=current%20mode%20control" title=" current mode control"> current mode control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-linear%20behavior" title=" non-linear behavior"> non-linear behavior</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28763/fuzzy-logic-based-sliding-mode-controller-for-a-new-soft-switching-boost-converter" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28763.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">538</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">35</span> Using Self Organizing Feature Maps for Automatic Prostate Segmentation in TRUS Images</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahad%20Salimi">Ahad Salimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hassan%20Masoumi"> Hassan Masoumi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Prostate cancer is one of the most common recognized cancers in men, and, is one of the most important mortality factors of cancer in this group. Determining of prostate’s boundary in TRUS (Transrectal Ultra Sound) images is very necessary for prostate cancer treatments. The weakness edges and speckle noise make the ultrasound images inherently to segment. In this paper a new automatic algorithm for prostate segmentation in TRUS images proposed that include three main stages. At first morphological smoothing and sticks filtering are used for noise removing. In second step, for finding a point in prostate region, SOFM algorithm is enlisted and in the last step, the boundary of prostate extracting accompanying active contour is employed. For validation of proposed method, a number of experiments are conducted. The results obtained by our algorithm show the promise of the proposed algorithm. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SOFM" title="SOFM">SOFM</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=preprocessing" title=" preprocessing"> preprocessing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GVF%20contour" title=" GVF contour"> GVF contour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=segmentation" title=" segmentation"> segmentation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29731/using-self-organizing-feature-maps-for-automatic-prostate-segmentation-in-trus-images" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29731.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">329</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">34</span> Governing External Innovation: Lessons from Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amir%20Mohagheghzadeh">Amir Mohagheghzadeh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Solaleh%20Salimi"> Solaleh Salimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ramin%20Tafazzoli"> Ramin Tafazzoli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ecosystem and networks plays significant roles in product innovation. External innovation within developing firms can bring a wide range of advantages for a firm in a competitive market. Using external innovation can be mentioned as one of the most significant concepts regarding the firm’s transition phase into openness. Derivative concepts such as open or shared platform and app stores are the main result of this thinking within the firms. However, adopting this concept and leverage the defined advantages of external innovation should be aligned with other strategies and policies of a firm. Consequently, one of the key aspects that have been raised while using external innovation is how to govern external innovation within a developing firm. This paper describes the frameworks that two pioneer companies in mobile operating system development have used in order to control and govern external innovation through platform. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=external%20innovation" title="external innovation">external innovation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=open%20innovation" title=" open innovation"> open innovation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=governance" title=" governance"> governance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=governance%20mechanisms" title=" governance mechanisms"> governance mechanisms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=innovation" title=" innovation"> innovation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Apple" title=" Apple"> Apple</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=iOS" title=" iOS"> iOS</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Google" title=" Google"> Google</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Android" title=" Android"> Android</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15277/governing-external-innovation-lessons-from-apples-ios-and-googles-android" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/15277.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">514</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">33</span> An Ensemble-based Method for Vehicle Color Recognition</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Barzegar%20Khalilsaraei">Saeedeh Barzegar Khalilsaraei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manoocheher%20Kelarestaghi"> Manoocheher Kelarestaghi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farshad%20Eshghi"> Farshad Eshghi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The vehicle color, as a prominent and stable feature, helps to identify a vehicle more accurately. As a result, vehicle color recognition is of great importance in intelligent transportation systems. Unlike conventional methods which use only a single Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for feature extraction or classification, in this paper, four CNNs, with different architectures well-performing in different classes, are trained to extract various features from the input image. To take advantage of the distinct capability of each network, the multiple outputs are combined using a stack generalization algorithm as an ensemble technique. As a result, the final model performs better than each CNN individually in vehicle color identification. The evaluation results in terms of overall average accuracy and accuracy variance show the proposed method’s outperformance compared to the state-of-the-art rivals. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vehicle%20Color%20Recognition" title="Vehicle Color Recognition">Vehicle Color Recognition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ensemble%20Algorithm" title="Ensemble Algorithm">Ensemble Algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stack%20Generalization" title="Stack Generalization">Stack Generalization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Convolutional%20Neural%20Network" title="Convolutional Neural Network">Convolutional Neural Network</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146909/an-ensemble-based-method-for-vehicle-color-recognition" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146909.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">85</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">32</span> An Electrochemical DNA Biosensor Based on Oracet Blue as a Label for Detection of Helicobacter pylori </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Hajihosseini">Saeedeh Hajihosseini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zahra%20Aghili"> Zahra Aghili</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Navid%20Nasirizadeh"> Navid Nasirizadeh</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> An innovative method of a DNA electrochemical biosensor based on Oracet Blue (OB) as an electroactive label and gold electrode (AuE) for detection of Helicobacter pylori, was offered. A single–stranded DNA probe with a thiol modification was covalently immobilized on the surface of the AuE by forming an Au–S bond. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was used to monitor DNA hybridization by measuring the electrochemical signals of reduction of the OB binding to double– stranded DNA (ds–DNA). Our results showed that OB–based DNA biosensor has a decent potential for detection of single–base mismatch in target DNA. Selectivity of the proposed DNA biosensor was further confirmed in the presence of non–complementary and complementary DNA strands. Under optimum conditions, the electrochemical signal had a linear relationship with the concentration of the target DNA ranging from 0.3 nmol L-1 to 240.0 nmol L-1, and the detection limit was 0.17 nmol L-1, whit a promising reproducibility and repeatability. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DNA%20biosensor" title="DNA biosensor">DNA biosensor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oracet%20blue" title=" oracet blue"> oracet blue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Helicobacter%20pylori" title=" Helicobacter pylori"> Helicobacter pylori</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrode%20%28AuE%29" title=" electrode (AuE)"> electrode (AuE)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/53867/an-electrochemical-dna-biosensor-based-on-oracet-blue-as-a-label-for-detection-of-helicobacter-pylori" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/53867.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">266</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">31</span> Using Self Organizing Feature Maps for Classification in RGB Images</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hassan%20Masoumi">Hassan Masoumi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahad%20Salimi"> Ahad Salimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nazanin%20Barhemmat"> Nazanin Barhemmat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Babak%20Gholami"> Babak Gholami</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Artificial neural networks have gained a lot of interest as empirical models for their powerful representational capacity, multi input and output mapping characteristics. In fact, most feed-forward networks with nonlinear nodal functions have been proved to be universal approximates. In this paper, we propose a new supervised method for color image classification based on self organizing feature maps (SOFM). This algorithm is based on competitive learning. The method partitions the input space using self-organizing feature maps to introduce the concept of local neighborhoods. Our image classification system entered into RGB image. Experiments with simulated data showed that separability of classes increased when increasing training time. In additional, the result shows proposed algorithms are effective for color image classification. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=classification" title="classification">classification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SOFM%20algorithm" title=" SOFM algorithm"> SOFM algorithm</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neural%20network" title=" neural network"> neural network</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=neighborhood" title=" neighborhood"> neighborhood</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=RGB%20image" title=" RGB image"> RGB image</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26819/using-self-organizing-feature-maps-for-classification-in-rgb-images" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/26819.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">478</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">30</span> Slug Initiation Evaluation in Long Horizontal Channels Experimentally</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=P.%20Adibi">P. Empirical correlations are also presented based on the obtained results. The tests are conducted for three liquid holdups in a long horizontal channel with dimensions of 5cmx10cm and 36m length. Usl and Usg rated as to 0.11m/s to 0.56m/s and 1.88m/s to 13m/s, respectively. The obtained results show that as αl=0.25, slug initiation position is increasing monotonically with Usl and Usg. During αl=0.50, slug initiation position is almost constant. For αl=0.75, slug initiation position is decreasing monotonically with Usl and Usg. In the case of equal void fraction of phases, generated slugs are weakly (low pressure). However, for the unequal void fraction of phases strong slugs (high pressure) are formed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=liquid%20holdup" title="liquid holdup">liquid holdup</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=long%20horizontal%20channel" title=" long horizontal channel"> long horizontal channel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=slug%20initiation%20position" title=" slug initiation position"> slug initiation position</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=superficial%20inlet%20velocity" title=" superficial inlet velocity"> superficial inlet velocity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3999/slug-initiation-evaluation-in-long-horizontal-channels-experimentally" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/3999.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">265</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">29</span> One-Pot Facile Synthesis of N-Doped Graphene Synthesized from Paraphenylenediamine as Metal-Free Catalysts for the Oxygen Reduction Used for Alkaline Fuel Cells</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Leila%20Samiee">Leila Samiee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amir%20Yadegari"> Amir Yadegari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Tasharrofi"> Saeedeh Tasharrofi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the work presented here, nitrogen-doped graphene materials were synthesized and used as metal-free electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) under alkaline conditions. The 270 participants, aged 7 -13, were selected using convenience and cluster random-assignment sampling. Independent t-test results showed significant differences between loneliness (-4.32, p ≤ 0.05) and depression (-3.02, p ≤0.05) among latchkey and non-latchkey students. Using the Pearson correlation test, significant correlation between depression and loneliness among latchkey students was also discovered (r=0.59, p ≤ 0.05). However, regarding non latchkey students, no significant difference between loneliness and depression was observed (r= 0.02. p ≥ 0.05). Multiple regression results also showed that depression variance can be determined by gender (22%) and loneliness (34%). The findings of this study, specifically the significant difference between latchkey and non-latchkey children regarding feelings of loneliness and depression, carries clear implications for parents. It can be concluded that mothers who spend most of their time working out of the house and devoid their children of their presence in the home may cause some form of mental distress like loneliness and depression. Drawing upon Nash-Sutcliffe Model Efficiency Coefficient for calibration periodic model estimated daily hydrographs and maximum flow rate with an accuracy up to 61% and 83.17 % respectively. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=watershed%20simulation" title="watershed simulation">watershed simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=WetSpa" title=" WetSpa"> WetSpa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=runoff" title=" runoff"> runoff</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flood%20prediction" title=" flood prediction"> flood prediction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74079/runoff-simulation-by-using-wetspa-model-in-garmabrood-watershed-of-mazandaran-province-iran" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74079.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">336</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">23</span> Comparison of Growth and Biomass of Red Alga Cultured on Rope and Net</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Esmaeil%20Kouhgardi">Esmaeil Kouhgardi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Dashti"> Saeedeh Dashti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hakimeh%20Fekrandish"> Hakimeh Fekrandish</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research has been conducted to study the method of culture and comparing growth and biomass of Gracilariacorticata cultured on rope and net for 50 days through two treatments (first treatment: culture of alga on net and the second treatment: culture of alga on rope and each treatment was repeated by four cases). During culture period, the water of aquariums was replaced once every two days for 40-50%. Also, 0.3-0.5 grams of Urea fertilizer was added to the culture environment for fertilization. Moreover, some of the environmental factors such as pH, salinity and temperature of the environment were measured on a daily basis. During the culture period, extent of longitudinal growth of the species of both treatments was equal. The said length was reached from 8-10 cm to 10.5-13 cm accordingly. The resulted weight in repetitions of the first treatment was higher than that of the second treatment in such a way as in the first treatment, its weight reached from 10 grams to 21.119 grams and in the second treatment, its weight reached from 10 grams to 17.663 grams. On a whole, it may be stated that that kind of alga being studied has a considerable growth with respect to its volume. The results have revealed that the percentage of daily growth and wet weight at the end of the first treatment was higher than that of the second treatment and it was registered as 0.934, 6.072 and 811.432 in the first treatment and 0.797, 4.990 and 758.071 in the second treatment respectively. This difference is significant (P < 0.05). Growth and biomass of G. corticata through culture on net was more emphasizing on numerous branches due to wider bed. Moreover, higher level of the species in this method was exposed to sunlight and this increased biosynthesis and eventually increases of growth and biomass. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=red%20alga" title="red alga">red alga</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=growth" title=" growth"> growth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomass" title=" biomass"> biomass</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=culture" title=" culture"> culture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=net" title=" net"> net</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rope" title=" rope"> rope</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19748/comparison-of-growth-and-biomass-of-red-alga-cultured-on-rope-and-net" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/19748.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">437</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">22</span> The Impact of Information and Communication Technologies on Teaching Performance at an Iranian University </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yusef%20Hedjazi">Yusef Hedjazi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Nazari%20Nooghabi"> Saeedeh Nazari Nooghabi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> New information and communication technologies (ICT) as one of the main needs of Faculty members in the process of teaching and learning has used in Irans higher education system since 2000.The main purpose of this study is to investigate the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in teaching performance of Agricultural and Natural Resources Faculties at University of Tehran. The statistical population of the study consisted of all 250 faculties in Agriculture and Natural Resources Colleges and a questionnaire was used to collect data. The results of the regression analysis also explained 51.7% of the variance, teaching performance. The six independent variables that accounted for the explained variance were experience in using educational websites or software, use of educational multimedia (e.g. film and CD, etc), making a presentation using PowerPoint, familiarity with online education websites, using News group to discuss on educational subjects with colleagues and students, and using Electronic communication (messengers) to solve studentsproblems. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=information%20and%20communication%20technologies" title="information and communication technologies">information and communication technologies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=agricultural%20and%20natural%20resources" title=" agricultural and natural resources"> agricultural and natural resources</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=faculties" title=" faculties"> faculties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=teaching%20performance" title=" teaching performance"> teaching performance</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51711/the-impact-of-information-and-communication-technologies-on-teaching-performance-at-an-iranian-university" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51711.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">333</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">21</span> Preparation and Characterization of Maltodextrin Microcapsules Containing Walnut Green Husk Extract </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatemeh%20Cheraghali">Fatemeh Cheraghali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Shojaee-Aliabadi"> Saeedeh Shojaee-Aliabadi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyede%20Marzieh%20Hosseini"> Seyede Marzieh Hosseini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Leila%20Mirmoghtadaie"> Leila Mirmoghtadaie</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In recent years, the field of natural antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds is one of the main research topics in the food industry. Application of agricultural residues is mainly cheap, and available resources are receiving increased attention. Walnut green husk is one of the agricultural residues that is considered as natural compounds with biological properties because of phenolic compounds. In this study, maltodextrin 10% was used for microencapsulation of walnut green husk extract. At first, the extract was examined to consider extraction yield, total phenolic compounds, and antioxidant activation. The results showed the extraction yield of 81.43%, total phenolic compounds of 3997 [mg GAE/100 g], antioxidant activity [DPPH] of 84.85% for walnut green husk extract. Antioxidant activity is about 75%-81% and by DPPH. At the next stage, microencapsulation was done by spry-drying method. The microencapsulation efficiency was 72%-79%. The results of SEM tests confirmed this microencapsulation process. In addition, microencapsulated and free extract was more effective on gram-positive bacteria’s rather than the gram-negative ones. According to the study, walnut green husk can be used as a cheap antioxidant and antimicrobial compounds due to sufficient value of phenolic compounds. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biopolymer" title="biopolymer">biopolymer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microencapsulation" title=" microencapsulation"> microencapsulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spray-drying" title=" spray-drying"> spray-drying</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=walnut%20green%20husk" title=" walnut green husk"> walnut green husk</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98739/preparation-and-characterization-of-maltodextrin-microcapsules-containing-walnut-green-husk-extract" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/98739.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">161</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">20</span> EFL Teachers’ Metacognitive Awareness as a Predictor of Their Professional Success</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Shafiee%20Nahrkhalaji">Saeedeh Shafiee Nahrkhalaji </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Metacognitive knowledge increases EFL students’ ability to be successful learners. Although this relationship has been investigated by a number of scholars, EFL teachers’ explicit awareness of their cognitive knowledge has not been sufficiently explored. The aim of this study was to examine the role of EFL teachers’ metacognitive knowledge in their pedagogical performance. Furthermore, the role played by years of their academic education and teaching experience was also studied. Fifty female EFL teachers were selected. They completed Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) that assessed six components of metacognition including procedural knowledge, declarative knowledge, conditional knowledge, planning, evaluating, and management strategies. Near the end of the academic semester, the students of each class filled in ‘the Language Teacher Characteristics Questionnaire’ to evaluate their teachers’ pedagogical performance. Four elements of MAI, declarative knowledge, planning, evaluating, and management strategies were found to be significantly correlated with EFL teachers’ pedagogical success. Significant correlation was also established between metacognitive knowledge and EFL teachers’ years of academic education and teaching experience. The findings obtained from this research have contributing implication for EFL teacher educators. The discussion concludes by setting out directions for future research. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metacognotive%20knowledge" title="metacognotive knowledge">metacognotive knowledge</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pedagogical%20performance" title=" pedagogical performance"> pedagogical performance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=language%20teacher%20characteristics%20questionnaire" title=" language teacher characteristics questionnaire"> language teacher characteristics questionnaire</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metacognitive%20awareness%20inventory" title=" metacognitive awareness inventory"> metacognitive awareness inventory</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/6274/efl-teachers-metacognitive-awareness-as-a-predictor-of-their-professional-success" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/6274.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">329</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">19</span> Experimental Study on Use of Crumb Rubber to Mitigate Expansive Soil Pressures on Basement Walls</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kwestan%20Salimi">Kwestan Salimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jenna%20Jacoby"> Jenna Jacoby</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Michelle%20Basham"> Michelle Basham</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amy%20Cerato"> Amy Cerato</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The extreme annual weather patterns of the central United States have increased the need for underground shelters for protection from destructive tornadic activity. However, very few residential homes have basements due to the added construction expense and the prevalence of expansive soils covering the central portion of the United States. These expansive soils shrink and swell, increasing earth pressure on basement walls. To mitigate the effect of expansive soils on basement walls, this study performed bench-scale tests using a common natural expansive soil mitigated with a backfill layer of crumb rubber. The results revealed that at 80% soil compaction, a 1:6 backfill height to total height ratio produced a 66% reduction in swell pressure. However, this percent reduction decreased to 27% for 90% soil compaction. It was also found that there is a strong linear correlation between compaction percentage and reduction in swell pressure when using the same backfill height to total height ratio. Using this correlation and extrapolating to 95% compaction, the percent reduction in swell pressure was approximately 12%. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=expansive%20soils" title="expansive soils">expansive soils</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swell%2Fshrink" title=" swell/shrink"> swell/shrink</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=swell%20pressure" title=" swell pressure"> swell pressure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stabilization" title=" stabilization"> stabilization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=crumb%20rubber" title=" crumb rubber"> crumb rubber</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136107/experimental-study-on-use-of-crumb-rubber-to-mitigate-expansive-soil-pressures-on-basement-walls" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136107.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">160</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">18</span> Assessment of Ultra-High Cycle Fatigue Behavior of EN-GJL-250 Cast Iron Using Ultrasonic Fatigue Testing Machine</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Bakhtiari">Saeedeh Bakhtiari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Johannes%20Depessemier"> Johannes Depessemier</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Stijn%20Hertel%C3%A9"> Stijn Hertelé</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wim%20De%20Waele"> Wim De Waele</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> High cycle fatigue comprising up to 107 load cycles has been the subject of many studies, and the behavior of many materials was recorded adequately in this regime. However, many applications involve larger numbers of load cycles during the lifetime of machine components. In this ultra-high cycle regime, other failure mechanisms play, and the concept of a fatigue endurance limit (assumed for materials such as steel) is often an oversimplification of reality. When machine component design demands a high geometrical complexity, cast iron grades become interesting candidate materials. Grey cast iron is known for its low cost, high compressive strength, and good damping properties. However, the ultra-high cycle fatigue behavior of cast iron is poorly documented. The current work focuses on the ultra-high cycle fatigue behavior of EN-GJL-250 (GG25) grey cast iron by developing an ultrasonic (20 kHz) fatigue testing system. Moreover, the testing machine is instrumented to measure the temperature and the displacement of the specimen, and to control the temperature. The high resonance frequency allowed to assess the behavior of the cast iron of interest within a matter of days for ultra-high numbers of cycles, and repeat the tests to quantify the natural scatter in fatigue resistance. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=GG25" title="GG25">GG25</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cast%20iron" title=" cast iron"> cast iron</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultra-high%20cycle%20fatigue" title=" ultra-high cycle fatigue"> ultra-high cycle fatigue</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic%20test" title=" ultrasonic test"> ultrasonic test</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/110405/assessment-of-ultra-high-cycle-fatigue-behavior-of-en-gjl-250-cast-iron-using-ultrasonic-fatigue-testing-machine" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/110405.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">176</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">17</span> Preparation and Modeling Carbon Nanofibers as an Adsorbent to Protect the Environment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maryam%20Ziaei">Maryam Ziaei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Rafiei"> Saeedeh Rafiei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Leila%20Mivehi"> Leila Mivehi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Akbar%20Khodaparast%20Haghi"> Akbar Khodaparast Haghi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Carbon nanofibers possess properties that are rarely present in any other types of carbon adsorbents, including a small cross-sectional area, combined with a multitude of slit shaped nanopores that are suitable for adsorption of certain types of molecules. Because of their unique properties these materials can be used for the selective adsorption of organic molecules. On the other hand, activated carbon fiber (ACF) has been widely applied as an effective adsorbent for micro-pollutants in recent years. ACF effectively adsorbs and removes a full spectrum of harmful substances. Although there are various methods of fabricating carbon nanofibres, electrospinning is perhaps the most versatile procedure. This technique has been given great attention in current decades because of the nearly simple, comfortable and low cost. Spinning process control and achieve optimal conditions is important in order to effect on its physical properties, absorbency and versatility with different industrial purposes. Modeling and simulation are suitable methods to obtain this approach. In this paper, activated carbon nanofibers were produced during electrospinning of polyacrylonitrile solution. Stabilization, carbonization and activation of electrospun nanofibers in optimized conditions were achieved, and mathematical modelling of electrosinning process done by focusing on governing equations of electrified fluid jet motion (using FeniCS software). In this study, we aimed to define some normal reference values for meniscal extrusion in the normal knees during different ranges of motion. Methods: The amount of anterior and posterior portion of meniscal extrusion among twenty-one asymptomatic volunteers (42 knees) were tracked at 0, 45, and 90 degrees of knee flexion using an ultrasound machine. The repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to show the interaction between the amounts of meniscal extrusion and the different degrees of knee flexion. Result: The anterior portion of the lateral menisci at full knee extension (0.59±1.40) and the posterior portion of the medial menisci during 90° flexion (3.06±2.36) showed the smallest and the highest mean amount of extrusion, respectively. The normal average amounts of anterior extrusion were 1.12± 1.17 mm and 0.99± 1.34 mm for medial and lateral menisci, respectively. The posterior meniscal normal extrusions were significantly increasing in both medial and lateral menisci during the survey (F= 20.250 and 11.298; both P-values< 0.001) as they were measured at 2.37± 2.16 mm and 1.53± 2.18 mm in order. Conclusion: The medial meniscus can extrude 1.74± 1.84 mm normally, while this amount was 1.26± 1.82 mm for the lateral meniscus. These measures commonly increased with the rising of knee flexion motion. Likewise, the posterior portion showed more extrusion than the anterior portion on both sides. This paper examines the restoration process of UL from a water governance perspective. By applying a water governance model, the study evaluates the process based on six selected principles: stakeholder engagement, transparency and accountability, effectiveness, equitable water use, adaptation capacity, and water usage efficiency. The dominance of structural and physicalist approaches to water governance has led to a weak understanding of social and environmental issues, contributing to social crises. Urgent efforts are required to address the water crisis and reform water governance in the country, making water-related issues a top national priority. The UL restoration process has achieved significant milestones, including stakeholder consensus, scientific and participatory planning, environmental vision, intergenerational justice considerations, improved institutional environment for NGOs, investments in water infrastructure, transparency promotion, environmental effectiveness, and local issue resolutions. However, challenges remain, such as power distribution imbalances, bureaucratic administration, weak conflict resolution mechanisms, financial constraints, accountability issues, limited attention to social concerns, overreliance on structural solutions, legislative shortcomings, program inflexibility, and uncertainty management weaknesses. Addressing these weaknesses and challenges is crucial for the successful restoration and sustainable governance of UL. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=evaluation" title="evaluation">evaluation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=restoration%20process" title=" restoration process"> restoration process</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Urmia%20Lake" title=" Urmia Lake"> Urmia Lake</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20governance" title=" water governance"> water governance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=water%20resource%20management" title=" water resource management"> water resource management</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169572/water-governance-perspectives-on-the-urmia-lake-restoration-process-challenges-and-achievements" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/169572.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">67</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14</span> The First Fungal Identification from Mini-BAL of Critical COVID-19 Patients</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatemeh%20Fallah">Fatemeh Fallah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ensieh%20Lotfali"> Ensieh Lotfali</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Leila%20Azimi"> Leila Azimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hannan%20Khodaei"> Hannan Khodaei</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maryam%20Rajabnejad"> Maryam Rajabnejad</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nafiseh%20Abdollahi"> Nafiseh Abdollahi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hossein%20Tayebi"> Hossein Tayebi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saham%20Ansari"> Saham Ansari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Yaghoubi"> Saeedeh Yaghoubi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdollah%20Karimi"> Abdollah Karimi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a worldwide issue due to its high prevalence and rapid transmission. Fungal infections have been detected in COVID-19 patients, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Objectives: This study aimed to isolate Aspergillus fumigatus and Mucor spp. on mini-bronchoalveolar lavage samples obtained from children with COVID-19 hospitalized in an Iranian children’s hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on mini-bronchoalveolar lavage samples from children confirmed positive for COVID-19 admitted to ICU with a ventilator from April 2021 to February 2022. Demographic characteristics were recorded, and fungal DNA was extracted from mini-BAL samples taken from children. Nested PCR was made with two primers for Aspergillus fumigatus and Mucor spp. Results: Out of 100 children with COVID-19, all samples were negative for Aspergillus fumigatus; however, 12 cases were positive for BAL PCR for Mucor spp. Among the 12 patients, fever, shortness of breath, cough, and decreased level of consciousness were reported in 8.3% (n: 1), 16.6% (n: 2), 25% (n: 3), and 25% (n: 3), respectively. Most cases (41.7%; n: 5) suffered from heart disease, followed by underlying malignancy (33.4%; n: 4). All positive BAL PCR for Mucor spp. cases had significantly higher chest CT scan scores and spent more time under a ventilator. Conclusions: The identification of COVID-19 with Mucor spp. was observed among 12% (n: 12) of children hospitalized in a COVID-19 ICU. When dealing with pediatric COVID-19 patients, clinicians should consider the differential diagnosis of fungal co-infections and have a low threshold to begin treatment. Moreover, it is highly advisable to take prophylactic measures, such as properly using corticosteroids and shortening the intubation time. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aspergillosis" title="aspergillosis">aspergillosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=COVID-19%20identification" title=" COVID-19 identification"> COVID-19 identification</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mucormycosis" title=" mucormycosis"> mucormycosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=paediatrics" title=" paediatrics"> paediatrics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184705/the-first-fungal-identification-from-mini-bal-of-critical-covid-19-patients" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184705.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">6</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">13</span> The Effect of Spark Physical Program (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids) on Quality of Life and Spirometry in 6-18-Year-Old Children with Cystic Fibrosis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Eshkil">Saeedeh Eshkil</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyedeh%20Farnaz%20Mousavi"> Seyedeh Farnaz Mousavi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hamid%20Reza%20Kianifar"> Hamid Reza Kianifar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyed%20Java%20Sayyedi"> Seyed Java Sayyedi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mehdi%20Sohrabi"> Mehdi Sohrabi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elham%20%20Bakhtiari"> Elham Bakhtiari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Morteza%20Mashoughi"> Morteza Mashoughi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ezzat%20Khodashenas"> Ezzat Khodashenas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: The effect of the SPARK physical education program on lung function in cystic fibrosis patients is not yet determined.).SPARK is Sports, play and active recreation for kids, including moving skills, aerobic games, jogging or walking, aerobic dance and jump rope. Regarding the high prevalence of cystic fibrosis and its destructive effects on the lungs, the aim of this study is to evaluate lung function and quality of life before and after undergoing the SPARK physical education program in children with cystic fibrosis. Method: In this quasi-experimental study, all patients with cystic fibrosis aged 6-18 years referred to the cystic fibrosis clinic of Dr. Sheikh Hospital were enrolled. The patients went under 12 weeks of SPARK training program (3 sessions per week, each session 45 minutes). The quality of life questionnaire ( Cystic Fibrosis Questionnaire includes self-examination, parental ) for patients with cystic fibrosis and spirometry indices (FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC, FEF25-75) was filled out before and after intervention for all patients. Results The mean and standard deviation of patients' age were 9.85±2.67 years, and 65% of patients were female. The FEV1 was significantly different before and after the SPARK physical education program (P=0.03), and the respiratory component of quality of life significantly increased after intervention (P=0.002). The overall score of quality of life from parents’ point of view was 2.87 ± 0.38, which increased to 2.99 ± 0.38 after the intervention. Conclusion: The SPARK training program may improve the spirometric parameters in children with cystic fibrosis. It also had a significant effect on improving the quality of life of patients, especially in the respiratory component. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cystic%20fibrosis" title="cystic fibrosis">cystic fibrosis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pediatrics" title=" pediatrics"> pediatrics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SPARK%20motor%20program" title=" SPARK motor program"> SPARK motor program</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=spirometry" title=" spirometry"> spirometry</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/191726/the-effect-of-spark-physical-program-sports-play-and-active-recreation-for-kids-on-quality-of-life-and-spirometry-in-6-18-year-old-children-with-cystic-fibrosis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/191726.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">20</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12</span> Determination of the Cooling Rate Dependency of High Entropy Alloys Using a High-Temperature Drop-on-Demand Droplet Generator</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saeedeh%20Imani%20Moqadam">Saeedeh Imani Moqadam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ilya%20Bobrov"> Ilya Bobrov</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=J%C3%A9r%C3%A9my%20Epp"> Jérémy Epp</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nils%20Ellendt"> Nils Ellendt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lutz%20M%C3%A4dler"> Lutz Mädler</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> High entropy alloys (HEAs), having adjustable properties and enhanced stability compared with intermetallic compounds, are solid solution alloys that contain more than five principal elements with almost equal atomic percentage. The concept of producing such alloys pave the way for developing advanced materials with unique properties. However, the synthesis of such alloys may require advanced processes with high cooling rates depending on which alloy elements are used. In this study, the micro spheres of different diameters of HEAs were generated via a drop-on-demand droplet generator and subsequently solidified during free-fall in an argon atmosphere. Such droplet generators can generate individual droplets with high reproducibility regarding droplet diameter, trajectory and cooling while avoiding any interparticle momentum or thermal coupling. Metallography as well as X-ray diffraction investigations for each diameter of the generated metallic droplets where then carried out to obtain information about the microstructural state. To calculate the cooling rate of the droplets, a droplet cooling model was developed and validated using model alloys such as CuSn%6 and AlCu%4.5 for which a correlation of secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS) and cooling rate is well-known. Droplets were generated from these alloys and their SDAS was determined using quantitative metallography. The cooling rate was then determined from the SDAS and used to validate the cooling rates obtained from the droplet cooling model. The application of that model on the HEA then leads to the cooling rate dependency and hence to the identification of process windows for the synthesis of these alloys. These process windows were then compared with cooling rates obtained in processes such as powder production, spray forming, selective laser melting and casting to predict if a synthesis is possible with these processes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cooling%20rate" title="cooling rate">cooling rate</a>, <a
