For this<MG3778> reason<MG1223> the world<MG2889> does not know<MG1097> us: because<MG3754> it did not know<MG1097> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>Beloved<MG27>, now<MG3568> we are children<MG5043> of God<MG2316>, and it has not appeared<MG5319> as yet<MG3768> what<MG5101> we will be. We know<MG3609a> that when<MG1437> He appears<MG5319>, we will be like<MG3664> Him, because<MG3754> we will see<MG3708> Him just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> He is. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>And everyone<MG3956> who has<MG2192> this<MG3778> hope<MG1680> <i>set</i> on Him purifies<MG48> himself<MG1438>, just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> He is pure<MG53>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Everyone<MG3956> who practices<MG4160> sin<MG266> also<MG2532> practices<MG4160> lawlessness<MG458>; and sin<MG266> is lawlessness<MG458>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>You know<MG3609a> that He appeared<MG5319> in<MG2443> order<MG2443> to<MG2443> take<MG142> away<MG142> sins<MG266>; and in Him there is no<MG3756> sin<MG266>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>No<MG3956, 3756> one<MG3956> who remains<MG3306> in Him sins<MG264> <i>continually;</i> no<MG3956, 3756> one<MG3956> who sins<MG264> <i>continually</i> has seen<MG3708> Him or<MG3761> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>knows<MG1097> Him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Little<MG5040> children<MG5040>, make sure no<MG3367> one<MG3367> deceives<MG4105> you; the one who practices<MG4160> righteousness<MG1343> is righteous<MG1342>, just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> He is righteous<MG1342>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>the one who practices<MG4160> sin<MG266> is of the devil<MG1228>; for the devil<MG1228> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>has been sinning<MG264> from the beginning<MG746>. The Son<MG5207> of God<MG2316> appeared<MG5319> for this<MG3778> purpose, to destroy<MG3089> the works<MG2041> of the devil<MG1228>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>No<MG3956, 3756> one<MG3956> who has been born<MG1080> of God<MG2316> practices<MG4160> sin<MG266>, because<MG3754> His seed<MG4690> remains<MG3306> in him; and he cannot<MG1410, 3756> sin<MG264> <i>continually,</i> because<MG3754> he has been born<MG1080> of God<MG2316>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>By this<MG3778> the children<MG5043> of God<MG2316> and the children<MG5043> of the devil<MG1228> are obvious<MG5318>: <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>anyone<MG3956> who does not practice<MG4160> righteousness<MG1343> is not of God<MG2316>, nor<MG2532> the one who does not love<MG25> his brother<MG80> <i>and sister.</i> <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>For this<MG3778> is the message<MG31a> which<MG3739> you have heard<MG191> from the beginning<MG746>, that we are to love<MG25> one<MG240> another<MG240>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>not as Cain<MG2535>, <i>who</i> was of the evil<MG4190> one<MG4190> and murdered<MG4969> his brother<MG80>. And for what<MG5101> reason<MG5484> did he murder<MG4969> him? Because<MG3754> his <i>own</i> deeds<MG2041> were evil<MG4190>, but his brother’s<MG80> were righteous<MG1342>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Do not be<MG2296> surprised<MG2296>, brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters,</i> if<MG1487> the world<MG2889> hates<MG3404> you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>We know<MG3609a> that we have passed<MG3327> out of death<MG2288> into life<MG2222>, because<MG3754> we love<MG25> the brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters.</i> The one who does not love<MG25> remains<MG3306> in death<MG2288>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Everyone<MG3956> who hates<MG3404> his brother<MG80> <i>or sister</i> is a murderer<MG443>, and you know<MG3609a> that no<MG3956, 3756> murderer<MG443> has<MG2192> eternal<MG166> life<MG2222> remaining<MG3306> in him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>We know<MG1097> love<MG26> by this<MG3778>, that He laid<MG5087> down<MG5087> His life<MG5590> for us; and we ought<MG3784> to lay<MG5087> down<MG5087> our lives<MG5590> for the brothers<MG80> <i>and sisters.</i> <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>But whoever<MG3739, 302> has<MG2192> worldly<MG2889> goods<MG979> and sees<MG2334> his brother<MG80> <i>or sister</i> in need<MG5532>, and closes<MG2808> his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>heart<MG4698> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>against<MG575> him, how<MG4459> does the love<MG26> of God<MG2316> remain<MG3306> in him? <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Little<MG5040> children<MG5040>, let’s not love<MG25> with word<MG3056> or<MG3366> with tongue<MG1100>, but in deed<MG2041> and truth<MG225>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>We will know<MG1097> by this<MG3778> that we are of the truth<MG225>, and will set<MG3982> our heart<MG2588> at<MG3982> ease<MG3982> before<MG1715> Him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>that if<MG1437> our heart<MG2588> condemns<MG2607> us, that God<MG2316> is greater<MG3173> than our heart<MG2588>, and He knows<MG1097> all<MG3956> things<MG3956>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Beloved<MG27>, if<MG1437> our heart<MG2588> does not condemn<MG2607> us, we have<MG2192> confidence<MG3954> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>before<MG4314> God<MG2316>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>and whatever<MG3739, 1437> we ask<MG154>, we receive<MG2983> from Him, because<MG3754> we keep<MG5083> His commandments<MG1785> and do<MG4160> the things that are pleasing<MG701> in<MG1799> His sight<MG1799>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>This<MG3778> is His commandment<MG1785>, that we <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>believe<MG4100> in the name<MG3686> of His Son<MG5207> Jesus<MG2424> Christ<MG5547>, and love<MG25> one<MG240> another<MG240>, just<MG2531a> as<MG2531a> He <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>commanded<MG1325, 1785> us. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_john/3-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>The one who keeps<MG5083> His commandments<MG1785> remains<MG3306> in Him, and He in him.
