They need regular cleaning and maintenance, which helps to extend the durability of the clothing, retains their useful properties and ensures that fresh clothing is ready to wear when needed. Generally, the cleaning processes used for various protective clothing include dry-cleaning (using solvents) or wet cleaning (using water). These cleaning processes can alter the fabric surface properties, dimensions, and physical, mechanical and performance properties. The technology of laundering and dry-cleaning has undergone several changes. Sustainable methods and products are available for faster, safer and improved cleaning of protective textiles. We performed a comprehensive and systematic review of green technologies and eco-friendly products for sustainable cleaning of protective textiles. Special emphasis is given on the care and maintenance procedures of protective textiles for protection from fire, bullets, chemical and other types of protective clothing. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sustainable%20cleaning" title="Sustainable cleaning">Sustainable cleaning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=protective%20textiles" title=" protective textiles"> protective textiles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ecofriendly%20cleaning" title=" ecofriendly cleaning"> ecofriendly cleaning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ozone%20laundering" title=" ozone laundering"> ozone laundering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic%20cleaning" title=" ultrasonic cleaning"> ultrasonic cleaning</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75945/green-technologies-and-sustainability-in-the-care-and-maintenance-of-protective-textiles" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/75945.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">238</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">688</span> A Design of Anisotropic Wet Etching System to Reduce Hillocks on Etched Surface of Silicon Substrate</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alonggot%20Limcharoen%20Kaeochotchuangkul">Alonggot Limcharoen Kaeochotchuangkul</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pathomporn%20Sawatchai"> Pathomporn Sawatchai</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research aims to design and build a wet etching system, which is suitable for anisotropic wet etching, in order to reduce etching time, to reduce hillocks on the etched surface (to reduce roughness), and to create a 45-degree wall angle (micro-mirror). This study would start by designing a wet etching system. There are four main components in this system: an ultrasonic cleaning, a condenser, a motor and a substrate holder. After that, an ultrasonic machine was modified by applying a condenser to maintain the consistency of the solution concentration during the etching process and installing a motor for improving the roughness. This effect on the etch rate and the roughness showed that the etch rate increased and the roughness was reduced. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anisotropic%20wet%20etching" title="anisotropic wet etching">anisotropic wet etching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wet%20etching%20system" title=" wet etching system"> wet etching system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hillocks" title=" hillocks"> hillocks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic%20cleaning" title=" ultrasonic cleaning"> ultrasonic cleaning</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109308/a-design-of-anisotropic-wet-etching-system-to-reduce-hillocks-on-etched-surface-of-silicon-substrate" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109308.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">115</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">687</span> Photovoltaic Array Cleaning System Design and Evaluation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ghoname%20Abdullah">Ghoname Abdullah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hidekazu%20Nishimura"> Hidekazu Nishimura</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Dust accumulation on the photovoltaic module&#39;s surface results in appreciable loss and negatively affects the generated power. Hence, in this paper, the design of a photovoltaic array cleaning system is presented. The cleaning system utilizes one drive motor, two guide rails, and four sweepers during the cleaning process. The cleaning system was experimentally implemented for one month to investigate its efficiency on PV array energy output. The energy capture over a month for PV array cleaned using the proposed cleaning system is compared with that of the energy capture using soiled PV array. The results show a 15% increase in energy generation from PV array with cleaning. From the results, investigating the optimal scheduling of the PV array cleaning could be an interesting research topic. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cleaning%20system" title="cleaning system">cleaning system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dust%20accumulation" title=" dust accumulation"> dust accumulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PV%20array" title=" PV array"> PV array</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PV%20module" title=" PV module"> PV module</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=soiling" title=" soiling"> soiling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136571/photovoltaic-array-cleaning-system-design-and-evaluation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/136571.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">129</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">686</span> Ultrasonic Techniques to Characterize and Monitor Water-in-Oil Emulsion</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=E.%20A.%20Alshaafi">E. Emulsions are often difficult to track and treat and can cause a number of costly problems which need to be avoided. The characteristics of the emulsion phase can vary with crude composition and types of impurities present in oil. The objectives of this study are the development of ultrasonic techniques to track and characterize emulsion phase generated during production and cleaning of crude oil. The position of emulsion layer is monitored with the help of ultrasonic probes suitably placed in the vessel. The sensitivity of the technique and its potential has been demonstrated based on extensive testing with different oil samples. The technique is also being developed to monitor emulsion phase characteristics such as stability, composition, and droplet size distribution. The ultrasonic parameters recorded are changes in acoustic velocity, signal attenuation and its frequency spectrum. Emulsion has been prepared with light mineral oil sample and the effects of various factors including mixing speed, temperature, surfactant, and solid particles concentrations have been investigated. The applied frequency for ultrasonic waves has been varied from 1 to 5 MHz to carry out a sensitivity analysis. Emulsion droplet structure is observed with optical microscopy and stability is examined by tracking the changes in ultrasonic parameters with time. A model based on ultrasonic attenuation spectroscopy is being developed and tested to track changes in droplet size distribution with time. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic%20techniques" title="ultrasonic techniques">ultrasonic techniques</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=emulsion" title=" emulsion"> emulsion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=characterization" title=" characterization"> characterization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=droplet%20size" title=" droplet size"> droplet size</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74038/ultrasonic-techniques-to-characterize-and-monitor-water-in-oil-emulsion" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/74038.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">174</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">685</span> Autonomous Control of Ultrasonic Transducer Drive System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dong-Keun%20Jeong">Dong-Keun Jeong</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jong-Hyun%20Kim"> Jong-Hyun Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Woon-Ha%20Yoon"> Woon-Ha Yoon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hee-Je%20Kim"> Hee-Je Kim</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to automatically operate the ultrasonic transducer drive system for sonicating aluminum, this paper proposes the ultrasonic transducer sensorless control algorithm. In this context, the variations of the suspension stability with ultrasonic power, treatment time, immersion depth of ultrasonic probe, and treatment regime (batch and continuous) were determined. The experimental results showed that the suspension stability and zeta potential of celestite decreased with ultrasonic treatment. Also, the treatment time, immersion depth of probe, and treatment regime affected the stability of celestite suspension. Secondly, the effect of pre-treatment of the suspension with the ultrasonic process on the shear flocculation of celestite using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was studied and the variations of the flocculation, zeta potential, and contact angle of the mineral with SDS concentration were presented. It was found that the ultrasonic pre-treatment slightly improved the shear flocculation of celestite particles in accordance with the increase in the contact angles. In addition, the ultrasonic process again relatively reduced the magnitude of the negative potential of celestite particles in the presence of SDS. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=celestite" title="celestite">celestite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=contact%20angle" title=" contact angle"> contact angle</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=suspension%20stability" title=" suspension stability"> suspension stability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic%20treatment" title=" ultrasonic treatment"> ultrasonic treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zeta%20potential" title=" zeta potential"> zeta potential</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89475/effect-of-ultrasonic-treatment-on-the-suspension-stability-zeta-potential-and-contact-angle-of-celestite" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/89475.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">226</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">678</span> Calcium Silicate Bricks – Ultrasonic Pulse Method: Effects of Natural Frequency of Transducers on Measurement Results</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jiri%20Brozovsky">Jiri Brozovsky</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Modulus of elasticity is one of the important parameters of construction materials, which considerably influence their deformation properties and which can also be determined by means of non-destructive test methods like ultrasonic pulse method. For the measurement of ultrasonic nonlinearity, a prestressed concrete beam was prepared and a nonlinear resonant ultrasound method was adopted. When the prestressing force changes, the stress state of the concrete inside the beam is affected, which leads to the occurrence of micro-cracks and changes in mechanical properties. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce nonlinear ultrasonic technology which sensitively reflects microstructural changes. Repetitive prestressing load history, including maximum levels of 45%, 60% and 75%, depending on the compressive strength, is designed to evaluate the impact of loading levels on the nonlinearity. As well as at the small scale, there are also opportunities to research the joining of thicker sheet metals and to widen the range of similar and dissimilar materials that can be successfully joined using this technology. This study presents the design, characterisation and test of a lateral-drive ultrasonic metal spot welding device. The ultrasonic metal spot welding horn is modelled using finite element analysis (FEA) and its vibration behaviour is characterised experimentally to ensure ultrasonic energy is delivered effectively to the weld coupon. The welding stack and fixtures are then designed and mounted on a test machine to allow a series of experiments to be conducted for various welding and ultrasonic parameters. Weld strength is subsequently analysed using tensile-shear tests. The results show how the weld strength is particularly sensitive to the combination of clamping force and ultrasonic vibration amplitude of the welding tip, but there are optimal combinations of these and also limits that must be clearly identified. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic%20welding" title="ultrasonic welding">ultrasonic welding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vibration%20amplitude" title=" vibration amplitude"> vibration amplitude</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=welding%20force" title=" welding force"> welding force</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=weld%20strength" title=" weld strength"> weld strength</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41161/effect-of-vibration-amplitude-and-welding-force-on-weld-strength-of-ultrasonic-metal-welding" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41161.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">368</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">675</span> The Impact of Ultrasonic Field to Increase the Biodegradability of Leachate from The Landfill</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kwarciak-Kozlowska%20A.">Kwarciak-Kozlowska A.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Slawik-Dembiczak%20L."> Slawik-Dembiczak L.</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Galwa-Widera%20M."> Galwa-Widera M.</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Complex and variable during operation of the landfill leachate composition prevents the use of a single universal method of their purification. To treat blood clots, clinicians presently have two options. The first involves drug therapy to thin the blood and thus reduce the clot. The second choice is to invasively remove the clot using a plastic tube called a catheter. Both approaches carry a high risk of bleeding, and invasive procedures, such as catheter intervention, can also damage the blood vessel wall and cause infection. Ultrasonic treatment as a potential alternative therapy to break down clots is attracting growing interests due to the reduced adverse effects. To demonstrate the concept, in this investigation a microfabricated ultrasonic device was electrically packaged with printed circuit board to treat healthy human blood. The red blood cells could be broken down after 3-hour ultrasonic treatment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microfabrication" title="microfabrication">microfabrication</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=blood%20clot" title=" blood clot"> blood clot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic%20thrombolysis%20device" title=" ultrasonic thrombolysis device"> ultrasonic thrombolysis device</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic%20device" title=" ultrasonic device"> ultrasonic device</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35989/blood-clot-emulsification-via-ultrasonic-thrombolysis-device" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35989.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">449</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">673</span> Effect of Ultrasonic Vibration on the Dilution, Mechanical, and Metallurgical Properties in Cladding of 308 on Mild Steel</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sandeep%20Singh%20Sandhu">Sandeep Singh Sandhu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Karanvir%20Singh%20Ghuman"> Karanvir Singh Ghuman</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Parminder%20Singh%20Saini">Parminder Singh Saini</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The aim of the present investigation was to study the effect of ultrasonic vibration on the cladding of the AISI 308 on the mild steel plates using the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). Developing an optimum and economical surface cleaning method has an enormous benefit for aluminum welding industries to reduce costs related to repairing and repeating welds as well as increasing the mechanical properties of the joints. In this study, several mechanical and chemical surface cleaning methods were examined for butt joint welding of 2 mm thick AA6xxx alloys using ER5556 filler metal. The effects of each method on porosity formation and tensile properties are evaluated. It has been found that, compared to the conventional mechanical cleaning method, the use of chemical cleaning leads to an important reduction in porosity level even after a significant delay between cleaning and welding. The effect of the higher porosity level in the fusion zone to reduce the tensile strength of the welds is shown. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gas%20metal%20arc%20welding%20%28GMAW%29" title="gas metal arc welding (GMAW)">gas metal arc welding (GMAW)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=aluminum%20alloy" title=" aluminum alloy"> aluminum alloy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20cleaning" title=" surface cleaning"> surface cleaning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=porosity%20formation" title=" porosity formation"> porosity formation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20property" title=" mechanical property "> mechanical property </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122819/the-effect-of-different-surface-cleaning-methods-on-porosity-formation-and-mechanical-property-of-aa6xxx-aluminum-gas-metal-arc-welds" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/122819.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">139</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">671</span> Adapting Grain Crop Cleaning Equipment for Sesame and Other Emerging Spice Crops</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ramadas%20Narayanan">Ramadas Narayanan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Surya%20Bhattrai"> Surya Bhattrai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vu%20Hoan"> Vu Hoan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Threshing and cleaning are crucial post-harvest procedures that are carried out to separate the grain or seed from the harvested plant and eliminate any potential contaminants or foreign debris. After harvesting, threshing and cleaning are necessary for the clean seeds to guarantee high quality and acceptable for consumption or further processing. For mechanised production, threshing can be conducted in a thresher. Afterwards, the seeds are to be cleaned in dedicated seed-cleaning facilities. This research investigates the effectiveness of Kimseed cleaning equipment MK3, designed for grain crops for processing new crops such as sesame, fennel and kalonji. Subsequently, systematic trials were conducted to adapt the equipment to the applications in sesame and spice crops. It was done to develop methods for mechanising harvest and post-harvest operations. For sesame, it is recommended to have t a two-step process in the cleaning machine to remove large and small contaminants. The first step is to remove the large contaminants, and the second is to remove the smaller ones. Quantitative and qualitative data collection methods were used to conduct data from October 1st, 2018 to September 30th, 2019. All of participants were male (100.0%) with aged 40- 49 years and 57.15%, of them finish bachelor degree. 71.43% of them was a driver and 57.15% of them had the working experience between 10 and 15 years. Research revealed that the participants assessed the quality of the bus air filter cleaning equipment for preventing dust diffusion at a moderate level (σ= 0.29), and 71.43 of them also suggested the development methods in order to improve the quality of bus air filters cleaning equipment as follows: 1) to install the circuit breaker for cutting the electricity and controlling the on-off of the equipment and to change the motor to the DC system, 2) should install the display monitor for wind pressure and electricity system as well as to install the air pressure gauge, 3) should install the tank lid lock for preventing air leakage and dust diffusion by increasing the blowing force and sucking power, 4) to stabilize the holding points for preventing the filter shaking while rotating and blowing for cleaning and to reduce the rotation speed in order to allow the filters to move slowly for the air system to blow for cleaning more thoroughly, 5) the amount of dust should be measured before and after cleaning and should be designed the cleaning equipment to be able to clean with a variety of filters, and sizes. Moreover, the light-weight materials should be used to build the cleaning equipment and the wheels should be installed at the base of the equipment in order to make it easier to move. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cleaning%20Equipment" title="Cleaning Equipment">Cleaning Equipment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bus%20Air%20Filters" title=" Bus Air Filters"> Bus Air Filters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Preventing%20Dust%20Diffusion" title=" Preventing Dust Diffusion"> Preventing Dust Diffusion</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Innovation" title=" Innovation"> Innovation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121879/the-cleaning-equipment-to-prevents-dust-diffusion-of-bus-air-filters" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/121879.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">110</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">668</span> Compressive Strength Evaluation of Underwater Concrete Structures Integrating the Combination of Rebound Hardness and Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Methods with Artificial Neural Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seunghee%20Park">Seunghee Park</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Junkyeong%20Kim"> Junkyeong Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eun-Seok%20Shin"> Eun-Seok Shin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sang-Hun%20Han"> Sang-Hun Han</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this study, two kinds of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques (rebound hardness and ultrasonic pulse velocity methods) are investigated for the effective maintenance of underwater concrete structures. Both can have significant impact on long and short term fatigue and creep behaviour under traffic. While some simple methods exist for overall evaluation of air voids, measuring air void distribution in asphalt concrete is very complex, involving expensive techniques such as X-ray methodologies. The research reported in the paper investigated the use of non-destructive ultrasonic techniques as an alternative to estimate the amount of air voids and their distribution within asphalt samples. Seventy-four Standard AC–14 asphalt samples made with three types of bitumen; Multigrade, PMB and C320 were analysed using ultrasonic techniques. The results have illustrated that ultrasonic testing has the potential of being a rapid, accurate and cost-effective method of estimating air void distribution in asphalt. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=asphalt%20concrete" title="asphalt concrete">asphalt concrete</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=air%20voids" title=" air voids"> air voids</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic" title=" ultrasonic"> ultrasonic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mechanical%20behaviour" title=" mechanical behaviour"> mechanical behaviour</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59847/evaluation-of-ultrasonic-techniques-for-the-estimation-of-air-voids-in-asphalt-concrete" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59847.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">346</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">666</span> Ultrasonic Densitometry of Bone Tissue of Jaws and Phalanges of Fingers in Patients after Orthodontic Treatment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Margarita%20Belousova">Margarita Belousova</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The ultrasonic densitometry (RU patent № 2541038) was used to assess the density of the bone tissue in the jaws of patients after orthodontic treatment. The uniformity of the cleaning tank was measured by two different methods i.e 1. ppbTM meter and 2. Liquid Particle Counting (LPC) technique. In the second method, aluminium metal spacer components was placed at various locations of the cleaning tank (such as centre, top left corner, bottom left corner, top right corner, bottom right corner) and the resultant particles removed by 360 kHz frequency was measured. The result indicates that the energy was distributed more uniformly throughout the entire cleaning vessel even at the corners and edges of the tank when megasonic sweeping technology is applied. The result also shows that rinsing the parts with 360 kHz frequency at final rinse gives lower particle counts, hence higher cleaning efficiency as compared to other frequencies. When megasonic sweeping technology is applied each piezoelectric transducers will operate at their optimum resonant frequency and generates stronger acoustic cavitational force and higher acoustic streaming velocity. These combined forces are helping to enhance the particle removal and at the same time improve the overall cleaning performance. The multiple extractions study was also carried out for various frequencies to measure the cleaning potential and asymptote value. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=power%20distribution" title="power distribution">power distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=megasonic%20sweeping" title=" megasonic sweeping"> megasonic sweeping</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cavitation%20intensity" title=" cavitation intensity"> cavitation intensity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20removal" title=" particle removal"> particle removal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=laser%20particle%20counting" title=" laser particle counting"> laser particle counting</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nano" title=" nano"> nano</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=submicron" title=" submicron"> submicron</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23901/cleaning-performance-of-high-frequency-high-intensity-360-khz-frequency-operating-in-thickness-mode-transducers" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23901.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">418</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">664</span> Vibration Analysis and Optimization Design of Ultrasonic Horn</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuen%20Ming%20Shu">Kuen Ming Shu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ren%20Kai%20Ho"> Ren Kai Ho</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ultrasonic horn has the functions of amplifying amplitude and reducing resonant impedance in ultrasonic system. Its primary function is to amplify deformation or velocity during vibration and focus ultrasonic energy on the small area. It is a crucial component in design of ultrasonic vibration system. There are five common design methods for ultrasonic horns: analytical method, equivalent circuit method, equal mechanical impedance, transfer matrix method, finite element method. In addition, the general optimization design process is to change the geometric parameters to improve a single performance. Therefore, in the general optimization design process, we couldn't find the relation of parameter and objective. However, a good optimization design must be able to establish the relationship between input parameters and output parameters so that the designer can choose between parameters according to different performance objectives and obtain the results of the optimization design. In this study, an ultrasonic horn provided by Maxwide Ultrasonic co., Ltd. was used as the contrast of optimized ultrasonic horn. The ANSYS finite element analysis (FEA) software was used to simulate the distribution of the horn amplitudes and the natural frequency value. The results showed that the frequency for the simulation values and actual measurement values were similar, verifying the accuracy of the simulation values. The ANSYS DesignXplorer was used to perform Response Surface optimization, which could shows the relation of parameter and objective. Therefore, this method can be used to substitute the traditional experience method or the trial-and-error method for design to reduce material costs and design cycles. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=horn" title="horn">horn</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20frequency" title=" natural frequency"> natural frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=response%20surface%20optimization" title=" response surface optimization"> response surface optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic%20vibration" title=" ultrasonic vibration"> ultrasonic vibration</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151835/vibration-analysis-and-optimization-design-of-ultrasonic-horn" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/151835.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">116</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">663</span> A Focused, High-Intensity Spread-Spectrum Ultrasound Solution to Prevent Biofouling</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alan%20T.%20Sassler">Alan T. Sassler</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Biofouling is a significant issue for ships, especially those based in warm water ports. Biofouling damages hull coatings, degrades platform hydrodynamics, blocks cooling water intakes, and returns, reduces platform range and speed, and increases fuel consumption. Although platforms are protected to some degree by antifouling paints, these paints are much less effective on stationary platforms, and problematic biofouling can occur on antifouling paint-protected stationary platforms in some environments in as little as a matter of weeks. Remediation hull cleaning operations are possible, but they are very expensive, sometimes result in damage to the vessel’s paint or hull and are generally not completely effective. Ultrasound with sufficient intensity focused on specific frequency ranges can be used to prevent the growth of biofouling organisms. The use of ultrasound to prevent biofouling isn't new, but systems to date have focused on protecting platforms by shaking the hull using internally mounted transducers similar to those used in ultrasonic cleaning machines. While potentially effective, this methodology doesn't scale well to large platforms, and there are significant costs associated with installing and maintaining these systems, which dwarf the initial purchase price. An alternative approach has been developed, which uses highly directional pier-mounted transducers to project high-intensity spread-spectrum ultrasonic energy into the water column focused near the surface. This focused energy has been shown to prevent biofouling at ranges of up to 50 meters from the source. Spreading the energy out over a multi-kilohertz band makes the system both more effective and more environmentally friendly. This system has been shown to be both effective and inexpensive in small-scale testing and is now being characterized on a larger scale in selected marinas. To date, test results have been collected in Florida marinas suggesting that this approach can be used to keep ensonified areas of thousands of square meters free from biofouling, although care must be taken to minimize shaded areas. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biofouling" title="biofouling">biofouling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasonic" title=" ultrasonic"> ultrasonic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=environmentally%20friendly%20antifoulant" title=" environmentally friendly antifoulant"> environmentally friendly antifoulant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marine%20protection" title=" marine protection"> marine protection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antifouling" title=" antifouling"> antifouling</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/176749/a-focused-high-intensity-spread-spectrum-ultrasound-solution-to-prevent-biofouling" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/176749.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">60</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">662</span> The Influence of Microscopic Features on the Self-Cleaning Ability of Developed 3D Printed Fabric-Like Structures Using Different Printing Parameters</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ayat%20Adnan%20Atwah">Ayat Adnan Atwah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20A.%20Khan"> Muhammad A. Especially for textile fabrics, it is observed that self-cleaning textile fabric surfaces are created by manipulating the surface features with the help of coatings and nanoparticles, which are considered costly and far more complicated. However, controlling the fabrication parameters of textile fabrics at the microscopic level by exploring the potential for self-cleaning has not been addressed. This study aimed to establish the context of self-cleaning textile fabrics by controlling the fabrication parameters of the textile fabric at the microscopic level. Therefore, 3D-printed textile fabrics were fabricated using the low-cost fused filament fabrication (FFF) technique. The printing parameters, such as orientation angle (O), layer height (LH), and extruder width (EW), were used to control the microscopic features of the printed fabrics. The combination of three printing parameters was created to provide the best self-cleaning textile fabric surface: (LH) (0.15, 0.13, 0.10 mm) and (EW) (0.5, 0.4, 0.3 mm) along with two different (O) of (45º and 90º). Three different thermoplastic flexible filament materials were used: (TPU 98A), (TPE felaflex), and (TPC flex45). The printing parameters were optimised to get the optimum self-cleaning ability of the printed specimens. Furthermore, the impact of these characteristics on mechanical strength at the fabric-woven structure level was investigated. The study revealed that the printing parameters significantly affect the self-cleaning properties after adjusting the selected combination of layer height, extruder width, and printing orientation. A linear regression model was effectively developed to demonstrate the association between 3D printing parameters (layer height, extruder width, and orientation). According to the experimental results, (TPE felaflex) has a better self-cleaning ability than the other two materials. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=3D%20printing" title="3D printing">3D printing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-cleaning%20fabric" title=" self-cleaning fabric"> self-cleaning fabric</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microscopic%20features" title=" microscopic features"> microscopic features</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=printing%20parameters" title=" printing parameters"> printing parameters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fabrication" title=" fabrication"> fabrication</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168395/the-influence-of-microscopic-features-on-the-self-cleaning-ability-of-developed-3d-printed-fabric-like-structures-using-different-printing-parameters" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/168395.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">90</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">661</span> Non-Destructing Testing of Sandstones from Unconventional Reservoir in Poland with Use of Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Technique and X-Ray Computed Microtomography</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Micha%C5%82%20Maksimczuk">Michał Maksimczuk</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=%C5%81ukasz%20Kaczmarek"> Łukasz Kaczmarek</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tomasz%20Wejrzanowski"> Tomasz Wejrzanowski</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study concerns high-resolution X-ray computed microtomography (µCT) and ultrasonic pulse analysis of Cambrian sandstones from a borehole located in the Baltic Sea Coast of northern Poland. µCT and ultrasonic technique are non-destructive methods commonly used to determine the internal structure of reservoir rock sample. Furthermore, samples Young’s modulus and Poisson ratio were obtained with use of ultrasonic pulse technique. µCT and ultrasonic pulse technique provide complex information which can be used for explorations and characterization of reservoir rocks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elastic%20parameters" title="elastic parameters">elastic parameters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linear%20absorption%20coefficient" title=" linear absorption coefficient"> linear absorption coefficient</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=northern%20Poland" title=" northern Poland"> northern Poland</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tight%20gas" title=" tight gas"> tight gas</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65737/non-destructing-testing-of-sandstones-from-unconventional-reservoir-in-poland-with-use-of-ultrasonic-pulse-velocity-technique-and-x-ray-computed-microtomography" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/65737.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">251</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">660</span> An Ultrasonic Signal Processing System for Tomographic Imaging of Reinforced Concrete Structures</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Edwin%20Forero-Garcia">Edwin Forero-Garcia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jaime%20Vitola"> Jaime Vitola</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brayan%20Cardenas"> Brayan Cardenas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Johan%20Casagua"> Johan Casagua</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research article presents the integration of electronic and computer systems, which developed an ultrasonic signal processing system that performs the capture, adaptation, and analog-digital conversion to later carry out its processing and visualization. The capture and adaptation of the signal were carried out from the design and implementation of an analog electronic system distributed in stages: 1. Coupling of impedances; 2. Analog filter; 3. Signal amplifier. After the signal conditioning was carried out, the ultrasonic information was digitized using a digital microcontroller to carry out its respective processing. The digital processing of the signals was carried out in MATLAB software for the elaboration of A-Scan, B and D-Scan types of ultrasonic images. Then, advanced processing was performed using the SAFT technique to improve the resolution of the Scan-B-type images. Thus, the information from the ultrasonic images was displayed in a user interface developed in .Net with Visual Studio. For the validation of the system, ultrasonic signals were acquired, and in this way, the non-invasive inspection of the structures was carried out and thus able to identify the existing pathologies in them. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acquisition" title="acquisition">acquisition</a>, <a
