<p>Studios often decide against opening two franchises against each other, but this weekend should see two films soar at the box office. But it’s partly because they don’t have as much crossover as — say — two superhero movies. Both <a title="More About How to Train Your Dragon 2" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20140625045238/http://screencrave.com/tag/How-to-Train-Your-Dragon-2/"><em><strong>How to Train Your Dragon 2</strong></em></a> and <a title="More About 22 Jump Street" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20140625045238/http://screencrave.com/tag/22-Jump-Street/"><em><strong>22 Jump Street</strong> </em></a>should be huge this weekend.</p> <p><span id="more-187523"></span></p> <p>And if <em><strong>Dragon</strong> </em>has an edge, it’s only because no one’s thought to release an animated movie for kids this summer season. Perhaps other studios expected that Disney would have had something ready for this summer, as they have had Monsters University last summer and Brave the year before. But this vacuum should be powerful and people loved the first film, so Dragon is likely to be the first film of the year to cross the three hundred million dollar mark. Some are going as low as mid-fifties, but it seems more likely the film will be in the high sixties, and play long.</p> <p>While <em><strong>22 Jump Street</strong> </em>has the goodwill of the first film and two talented performers who are amazing when teamed together. <a title="More About Jonah Hill" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20140625045238/http://screencrave.com/tag/Jonah-Hill/">Jonah Hill</a> and <a title="More About Channing Tatum" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20140625045238/http://screencrave.com/tag/Channing-Tatum/">Channing Tatum</a> are great together, and the directors <a title="More About Phil Lord" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20140625045238/http://screencrave.com/tag/Phil-Lord/">Phil Lord</a> and <a title="More About Chris Miller" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20140625045238/http://screencrave.com/tag/Chris-Miller/">Chris Miller</a> have been on a run. This should continue it. This going to be a great weekend at the box office too, as both films have been well reviewed.</p> <p>As for the holdovers, <a title="More About The Fault in Our Stars" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20140625045238/http://screencrave.com/tag/The-Fault-in-Our-Stars/"><em><strong>The Fault in Our Stars</strong> </em></a>was an opening weekend picture, but it should get past $100 Million easily, while <a title="More About Edge of Tomorrow" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20140625045238/http://screencrave.com/tag/Edge-of-Tomorrow/"><em><strong>Edge of Tomorrow</strong></em></a> may falter. But it’s performing well internationally, and if that keeps up, it means that the film might make its money back. But it’s a very expensive film, so it’s more likely to just break even with international doing $300 Million and domestic near a hundred (at best).</p> <p>Anyway, predictions are go:</p> <ol> <li><em><strong>How to Train Your Dragon 2</strong> </em>- $65.5 Million</li> <li><em><strong>22 Jump Street</strong></em> – $52 Million</li> <li><em><strong>The Fault in Our Stars</strong></em> – $20.3 Million</li> <li><a title="More About Maleficent" href="http://web.archive.org/web/20140625045238/http://screencrave.com/tag/Maleficent/"><em><strong>Maleficent</strong></em></a> – $17.9 Million</li> <li><em><strong>Edge of Tomorrow</strong></em> – $14 Million</li> </ol> <p><em><strong>Edge</strong> </em>could totally tank at this point, <em><strong>22</strong> </em>could go higher, and heck, so could <em><strong>Dragon</strong></em>.
